Job Description

We are looking for a Director Commercial to join our Sales team within Sub-Region Africa, based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Role Reports to: Managing Director Sub-Region Africa

Overall Job Purpose:

Directing Sub-Regional Africa Sales efforts to maximize both volume (controlled and non-controlled) and contribution levels, while (re)shaping the base foundation and future Commercial / Sales tools and processes.

Consciously establishes a culture that encourages customer focus, individual development, efficiency, collaboration, and an environment of continuous improvements.

Upholds and ensures that all Hapag-Lloyd policies and procedures are followed and maintained.

Key Accountabilities:

Responsible for coordinating all sales matters related to Sub-Region Africa incl. but not limited to:

  • Proactively pursues the goals set by Management e.g. volume, revenue and contribution targets
  • Identifies and maps segmented customer needs
  • Develops product-, benefit- and value propositions to support our Area Sales organizations
  • Develops commercial customer programs (e.g. loyalty programs) and package offers (e.g. standard products incl. value-added services)
  • Delivers the Sub-Region Africa Sales Pipeline, thereby, also directly involved in the Areas’ pipelines
  • Monitors customer performance and takes action to improve where needed
  • Acts a POE for Sub-Region Customer Service topics in coordination with QSC Customer Service
  • Gathers and analyzes competitor information to support the Sales org. in their markets
  • Ensures structural Area Sales feedback to the Sub-Region e.g. market rates, new customer leads etc.
  • Leads or participates in relevant Steering Committees for Sub-Region Africa
  • Leads or participates in commercial projects relevant for Sub-Region Africa and / or Region Middle East
  • Works and coordinates closely with key stakeholders e.g. RME Commercial, HQ GCD, Africa QSC and all relevant Areas (Africa and others)
  • Coaches and develops individual department managers and staff via regular performance reviews (in line with company’s policy and management requirements)
  • Drives the Sub-Regions NPS and CES
  • University degree in Business Administration, Sales Management, Marketing or related field preferred

  • More than 10 years work experience in International Shipping Companies or other Multinationals. Industry knowledge (shipping).
  • Advanced English. Other languages desirable.

  • Excellent negotiation skills coupled with outstanding communication skills. Experience in negotiating and delivering results.

  • Proven leadership experience having successfully managed teams.

  • CRM management. Project management.

  • Strong organizational skills
  • Willingness to travel frequently.
