About the Role:

Grade Level (for internal use):

The role: Director, Cloud Security Automation & Engineering

About the Role

We are hiring a Director, Cloud Security Automation and Engineering to lead the team that builds and operates the controls securing our cloud and container estate. This is a hands-on technical role: you will set multi-year strategy, own the engineering roadmap, and work with a team of security engineers and technical leads — while staying close enough to the technology to review a cluster hardening design, an admission-control policy, or a Terraform module.

Container and Kubernetes security is the anchor domain of this role and its most visible program. Our container footprint is expanding across every division of the firm, and the Director owns the strategy, tooling, and operational posture that keeps it safe. Around that anchor, the team also owns cloud security automation broadly — infrastructure-as-code guardrails, security-as-code frameworks, self-service platforms that let engineering teams do the right thing by default, and the automation fabric that turns detections into resolved findings without human toil.

You will partner at the executive level with divisional BISOs, platform engineering leadership, DevOps, GRC, and the SOC — and lead the enterprise-wide rollout of container runtime security tooling (including the Wiz Runtime Sensor) across every division.

What You'll Do

Lead the Container and Kubernetes Security Program

  • Own the enterprise container and Kubernetes security strategy across managed clusters (EKS, AKS, GKE) — cluster hardening baselines against CIS benchmarks, admission-control frameworks (OPA/Gatekeeper or Kyverno), workload identity patterns (IRSA, Workload Identity Federation, Azure AD Workload Identity), and service-to-service auth standards.
  • Lead the enterprise-wide deployment and lifecycle management of the Wiz Runtime Sensor across the container estate — coverage strategy, sensor rollout patterns, performance and stability tuning, integration with the SIEM, and integration of runtime findings into vulnerability and detection workflows.
  • Direct the enterprise rollout of container runtime scanning and reporting by partnering with all divisional stakeholders — engineering leadership, platform owners, application teams, compliance, and audit — to agree onboarding criteria, remediation SLAs, and divisional scorecards for coverage and posture.
  • Set the direction for container supply-chain security: base-image strategy, image signing and verification (Sigstore/cosign), SBOM generation, SLSA-aligned build attestations, and admission-time enforcement.
  • Own container and cluster incident response readiness; ensure detections mapped to MITRE ATT&CK for Containers are live, tuned, and rehearsed with the SOC.

Cloud Security Automation and Engineering

  • Set the strategy and roadmap for security automation across the cloud estate — reducing manual toil in detection triage, remediation, exception handling, and compliance evidence collection.
  • Own the infrastructure-as-code security program: Terraform, Helm, Kustomize, Bicep, and CloudFormation guardrails via policy-as-code (OPA/Conftest, Sentinel) enforced in CI/CD; reusable secure-by-default modules for high-risk primitives (IAM, KMS, VPC, cluster provisioning).
  • Direct the build-out of self-service security platforms that let engineering teams adopt secure patterns without a security ticket — paved roads over gates, guardrails over reviews.
  • Own the engineering relationship with our CNAPP and cloud-security tooling vendors (Wiz and adjacent platforms), including capability roadmap, escalations, and commercial reviews in partnership with sourcing.

What We're Looking For

Required Skills

  • 12+ years in security engineering with progressive leadership responsibility; 3+ years leading and managing security engineering teams
  • A track record of owning container and Kubernetes security as a named program — architecture, tooling selection, cross-org rollout
  • Deep, current knowledge of Kubernetes internals and its security surface: API server, RBAC, admission chain, CRI/CNI/CSI, kubelet, workload identity, and the operational implications of each.
  • Demonstrated experience selecting, deploying, and operating a CNAPP or Kubernetes-native security platform at enterprise scale; hands-on experience with Wiz — including Wiz Runtime Sensor deployment across a large container estate — is strongly preferred, with Prisma Cloud, Aqua, Sysdig, or Orca considered as adjacent experience.
  • Strong background in security automation and infrastructure-as-code — Terraform, policy-as-code (OPA, Sentinel, Kyverno), CI/CD security integration — with concrete examples of programs you have shipped.
  • Experience leading enterprise-wide rollouts across many independent divisions or business units, including divisional stakeholder management and executive-level reporting.
  • Fluency across at least two major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP), with credible depth in one.
  • Executive communication skills — you can move from a cluster shell to a BISO/CISO briefing and be equally credible in both.

Nice to Have

  • Regulated-industry background (financial services, healthcare, public sector) with familiarity with the associated control frameworks (SOC 2, PCI-DSS, NIST 800-53, ISO 27001) and regulators (SEC, IOSCO, ESMA, or equivalents).
  • Experience with GitOps delivery (Argo CD, Flux), service mesh security (Istio, Linkerd, Cilium), and eBPF-based tooling.
  • Supply-chain security depth: Sigstore, SLSA, in-toto, build-system hardening (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins).
  • Certifications such as CKS, CCSK, CCSP, or CISSP — valued as signal, not as a gate.
  • Contributions to relevant open-source projects (Kubernetes, OPA, Kyverno, Falco, Sigstore, Trivy, or similar).
