What We Offer

The Director, Clinical Quality and Research Programs provides strategic leadership and oversight for clinical quality, research, and programmatic initiatives for the Novant Health Abdominal Wall Reconstruction & Hernia Center.

The Director is accountable for developing and advancing the strategic direction for clinical research and quality programs, including research infrastructure. This is a highly patient-facing role that will provide direct patient engagement, support recruitment into clinical studies, guide patients through informed consent, and help coordinate longitudinal follow-up.

What You'll Do

The role will directly engage patients at the point of care by identifying eligible candidates, explaining research opportunities, supporting informed decision-making, coordinating consent, and maintaining follow-up contact after treatment. In addition to regulatory compliance, data platform development, outcomes reporting, clinical coordination, and dissemination of research findings, this direct patient care and recruitment function will distinguish the Center from a surgical program alone and position Novant Health for meaningful clinical growth, quality advancement, and national recognition.

Strategic Leadership and Program Development

  • Provides strategic leadership and direction for the specialty research program, establishing priorities and infrastructure that support organizational and specialty-specific goals. Develops and executes strategies to expand the research portfolio, strengthen program capabilities, and position the specialty for continued growth and innovation. Anticipates trends in clinical research, artificial intelligence, industry sponsored studies, and outcomes analytics to identify future opportunities.

Operations and Program Management

  • Directs the operational performance of the research program including clinical research workflows, patient recruitment and enrollment strategies, data systems, study implementation, and center of excellence readiness. Establishes scalable processes, performance expectations, and operating standards to ensure effective execution across the research portfolio. Partners with clinical and operational leaders to address barriers and optimize program performance.

Clinical & research Partnerships

  • Builds and maintains strategic partnerships with physicians, Apps, nursing leaders, research teams, operational leaders, and the institutional review board (IRB). Ensures research priorities are aligned with clinical operations, patient needs, organizational objectives, and standards of care. Serves as a senior resource and escalation point for complex research and operational matters.

Regulatory, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Provides leadership oversight to ensure compliance with GCP, ICH, FDA, IRB, organizational policies, and sponsored and investigator-initiated research. Establishes appropriate controls and accountability to support research integrity, patient safety, and regulatory readiness.

Financial & Resource Stewardship

  • Provides oversight of program resources, staffing models, research related expenditures, and applicable budgets to ensure appropriate stewardship and alignment with strategic priorities. Evaluates resource needs associated with program expansion, new studies, technology and operational initiatives.

Growth, innovation& External Positioning

  • Identifies and evaluates opportunities for program expansion, industry partnership, grant funding, clinical trials, and innovative research models. Represents the program internally and externally and supports dissemination of research findings to enhance the specialty’s academic reputation and competitive position.

What We're Looking For

  • Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree, required.
  • Graduate Degree (in Health Science), preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification:
  • ACRP or SoCRA certification (or must be obtained within 18 months of hire), required.
  • Experience:
  • 5 years of clinical trials experience required.
  • 5 years of management experience required.
  • Additional Skills/Requirements (required):
  • Operational knowledge and ability to oversee adherence to GCP, ICH, FDA, and IRB standards across sponsored and investigator-initiated projects.
