CommBank’s Institutional Banking & Markets (IB&M) is looking for a Director to join our Chief Operating Office (COO) team focussed on supporting and enabling our coverage bankers to focus on what matters most – building client relationships, originating opportunities and delivering outstanding client outcomes.

IB&M manages CommBank's relationships with major corporate and government clients, institutional investors and financial institutions. Within IB&M, Global Institutional Banking Coverage (GIBC) leads banking relationship management and delivers transaction banking, risk management and capital solutions to support our clients' strategic objectives.

Do work that matters

As a Director within our Coverage team’s Chief Operating Office, you will lead a small team while partnering with senior stakeholders across IB&M and the broader Group. As a team, we are focussed on driving strategic priorities, resolving business challenges, improving business performance, strengthening governance and simplifying the way we work.

This is a highly visible role sitting at the centre of Coverage's operating model, balancing strategic execution, business management, governance, risk management and continuous improvement. You'll help shape and deliver initiatives that improve banker productivity, reduce operational friction and enhance the experience of both bankers and clients.

You'll play a critical role in driving business performance, supporting leadership decision-making and helping Coverage adapt to emerging opportunities in digital, automation and AI.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the execution of Coverage's strategic priorities, including business planning, objectives and key results and leadership deliverables.
  • Leading and developing a small team responsible for key COO activities, business reporting, communications and operational execution.
  • Coordinating business performance reporting, insights and recommendations for senior leadership to support informed decision making.
  • Maintaining Coverage's operating rhythm, including governance forums, town halls, business updates and leadership communications.
  • Supporting Line 1 risk management, governance, audit, compliance and remediation activities across Coverage.
  • Driving process improvement initiatives that simplify banker workflows, improve consistency and increase operational effectiveness.
  • Leading AI, automation and productivity initiatives that reduce manual effort and enable bankers to spend more time with clients.
  • Managing key tools, templates, SOPs, communications and business resources used across the Coverage business.
  • Using data and business insights to identify opportunities, monitor performance and improve client and banker outcomes.

We're interested in hearing from people who have:

  • Proven experience in Corporate or Institutional business management, relationship management, COO, governance, transformation, risk or operational leadership roles within financial services.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver strategic and operational initiatives in a large, complex organisation.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence across senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Experience translating strategy into clear deliverables, milestones and measurable outcomes.
  • Strong problem-solving capability with the ability to identify root causes and implement pragmatic solutions & prepare concise executive-level materials.
  • Experience using data and insights to drive business decisions and continuous improvement outcomes.
  • A strong risk mindset and understanding of governance, compliance and control environments.
  • A passion for simplifying processes, improving productivity and delivering better customer outcomes.
  • Proven people leadership experience, with a focus on developing capability and fostering high performance.
