Role and Responsibilities

Position Summary

The DA Category Management Director is the full business owner for Digital Appliances (Refrigerator, Laundry, Cooking, Dishwasher, and Vacuum) within Samsung Electronics America's CE eCommerce organization. This role carries end-to-end P&L accountability for DA across Samsung.com and eCommerce retail partners, including revenue, operating profit, pricing, forecast accuracy, and promotional investment — with a mandate to lead the category's turnaround after several years of revenue and profit decline.

Beyond category ownership, this Director will lead a defined set of DA business expansion initiatives on behalf of CE eCommerce, since base-business growth alone is not expected to be sufficient to restore DA to profitability. This includes Samsung.com's own parts marketplace initiatives and SMB/B2B channel build-out. The role is intended for a leader who can run a P&L under real turnaround pressure with rigor while also building new growth channels alongside it.

Key Responsibilities

Category P&L Ownership (Digital Appliances)

• Full P&L accountability — own revenue, SEA weight, operating profit, and OP% for DA (Refrigerator, Laundry, Cooking, Dishwasher, Vacuum) across all eCommerce channels, and report performance against plan (T-series forecasts, budget, and prior-year comparisons).
• Turnaround leadership — own the plan to return DA to sustainable profitability, including root-cause diagnosis of margin erosion, pricing/promotional discipline, and a clear, milestone-based path back to breakeven and beyond.
• Pricing and promotional strategy — set and defend price architecture, promotional cadence, and MDF/co-op investment across DA sub-categories in partnership with Finance and Sales.
• Forecast and demand planning — own DA's sell-in and sell-out forecast, reconcile against retailer-submitted forecasts, and flag and correct drift before it becomes an inventory or OP problem.
• Category management team leadership — manage the Refrigerator Category Manager and the Cooking & Laundry Category Manager, and act as the primary escalation point for category-level issues raised by Finance, Sales, or Supply Chain.
• Cross-functional partnership — represent DA in Weekly Business Reviews, S&OP, and executive business reviews, and partner with Marketing, Supply Chain, and Retail Sales teams on category execution.

DA Business Expansion Initiatives

Given DA's current profitability pressure and constrained marketing budget, base-business growth alone is not expected to be enough — expansion is a required lever, not an optional one. This Director will personally lead the following initiatives, in partnership with the CE eCommerce Business Expansion Lead:

• Samsung.com parts marketplaces — drive DA profitability through Samsung.com's internal parts-marketplace initiatives, including the Global Parts Marketplace (GPCA), which sells DA parts directly, and the Samsung Décor Parts Marketplace for décor/finish parts and panels.
• SMB and B2B channel build-out — expand SMB-focused programs such as the Pure Home River gifting/bulk relationship, and build out builder-channel accounts as a new demand source for DA categories.
• White-space partnership exploration — evaluate largely untapped partnership channels relevant to DA categories (e.g., real estate agents, moving companies, registries) as long-term demand sources.

Skills and Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience in eCommerce, category management, retail merchandising, or brand P&L management, ideally within consumer electronics, appliances, or a comparable durable-goods category.
• Demonstrated ownership of a P&L of comparable scale — revenue and profitability accountability, not just sales or marketing execution — including experience managing a business through a margin or revenue downturn.
• Strong quantitative fluency: comfortable building and defending a forecast, reading a margin waterfall, and working directly in Excel-based financial models.
• Experience managing pricing, promotional investment, and channel strategy with retail partners (Best Buy, Lowe's, Home Depot, Amazon, or similar) or on a direct-to-consumer platform.
• Proven people leadership — has managed at least one direct report and can develop category management talent.
• Excellent executive communication skills; able to present category performance, turnaround plans, and risk transparently to senior leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience specifically in major appliances, home goods, or a comparable durable-goods category.
• Prior experience leading a P&L turnaround or margin-recovery effort.
• Prior exposure to parts/aftermarket marketplaces, SMB or B2B channel development, or builder-channel sales.
• Experience operating in a matrixed organization spanning Finance, Supply Chain, and Sales.
• MBA or equivalent experience in a quantitative business discipline (preferred, not required).
