ABOUT THIS POSITION

  • As part of an organization pursuing significant growth in APAC and with an evolving risk profile, the second line of defense Business Risk Director plays a key role in overseeing and maturing risk management activities in line with the established risk framework, enabling risk-informed decision-making and the pursuit of strategic objectives.
  • This role will cover the firm’s four APAC locations (Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Australia) and will provide exposure to senior leaders and strategically important initiatives where there is a need to explore all relevant risk factors.
  • The ideal candidate has an expert understanding of enterprise risk frameworks and regulation, operational risk best practices in investment management and operational resilience concepts, is solution-oriented and able to partner strategically with senior leaders, offering credible challenge and risk insights. A data-driven mindset and the ability to form relationships across the organization is key, as the role will engage across a set of global stakeholders in addition to local colleagues.
  • This role will be appointed as the Manager-In-Charge for 2nd line Risk Management in Hong Kong and Senior Manager under IAC in Singapore.
  • This role will report to the Head of Business Risk EMEA & APAC and will lead a small APAC team.

Responsible for ensuring that the APAC region adheres to the relevant risk management policies and practices, working with APAC stakeholders regarding the management of business risks including operational risk event management on a consultative basis. The role will work closely with and act as one of the connectors between the APAC business functions and the global risk specialist community within T. Rowe Price. The individual will engage with entity boards and committees, undertake risk reporting, own aspects of risk governance and support the execution of the global risk framework, as well as providing ad hoc guidance to stakeholders on risk management related policy and procedural matters.

Principal Responsibilities

Enterprise Risk, Operational & Business Risk

  • Oversight and support of the development and maturation of risk governance structures in the region.
  • Champion the development of a strong organizational risk culture and adherence to the enterprise risk management framework and policies.
  • Supports the development and implementation of comprehensive risk assessment program to ensure that key risks within the organization are regularly assessed. Consults with management in order to respond to risks appropriately. Supports leadership to develop policies or procedures aimed at reducing or mitigating significant risks, and appropriately escalates issues to the relevant senior leadership as needed.
  • Develops rapport with key stakeholders and builds strong relationships with senior roles across all three lines of defense to support the timely completion of risk-related deliverables and issue resolution.
  • Serves as an escalation point in APAC for risk issues.
  • Supports the deployment of the business continuity program.
  • Supporting Risk team members to ensure timely completion of risk deliverables such as legal entity risk profiles and RCSAs.
  • Assists with the development of data-driven analysis and reporting (including incidents, regional, entity-level and risk committee reporting) and insights to advise senior management in their decision-making processes.
  • Works closely with the Head of Business Risk, EMEA and APAC and regional management on complex new business and change initiatives.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES / SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • 10+ years of total relevant work experience, preferably in asset management or banking.
  • Combination of post-graduate and/or professional certifications (accounting, FRM, CFA, etc.)
  • Experience of APAC regulation
  • Confident leader with credibility in front of regional and global management
  • Ability to influence outcomes in complex issues
  • Anticipates changing dynamics of competitive landscape and future market trends and adapts work, using the knowledge of market dynamics and industry developments
  • Fluent English (written and spoken )
