Purpose of the Role The Director – Business Development will lead the business development function and drive sustainable revenue growth by developing go-to-market strategies, building a high-quality sales pipeline, acquiring new clients, expanding strategic accounts, and establishing long-term business partnerships. The role will own the complete business development lifecycle, including opportunity identification, prospecting, client engagement, proposal development, commercial negotiations, closing, and strategic account expansion while ensuring achievement of revenue and profitability targets. Key Responsibilities Business Development Strategy & Leadership Develop and execute the overall business development strategy aligned with organizational objectives, revenue targets, and growth priorities. Translate business objectives into annual and quarterly sales plans, target markets, account strategies, and measurable KPIs. Identify new markets, industries, service offerings, channels, and strategic partnership opportunities. Establish scalable business development processes, governance standards, and performance frameworks. Provide market and commercial insights to senior leadership. Lead, mentor, and develop the Business Development team while fostering a high-performance and accountable culture. Manage departmental targets, resources, budgets, and priorities. Revenue Growth & New Client Acquisition Own new-business revenue targets and ensure achievement of sales, pipeline, and profitability objectives. Develop and execute go-to-market strategies across target industries, customer segments, and geographic markets. Build relationships with founders, C-suite executives, business heads, procurement leaders, and other senior decision-makers. Lead consultative discovery sessions to understand client requirements and position value-based solutions. Generate opportunities through strategic outreach, networking, referrals, partnerships, industry events, and targeted account development. Develop compelling business cases demonstrating value, outcomes, and ROI. Drive acquisition of enterprise and mid-market clients with long-term growth potential. Sales Pipeline & Forecast Management Manage the complete business development lifecycle from prospect identification and qualification through proposal, negotiation, and closure. Build and maintain a healthy and qualified sales pipeline. Establish qualification standards, opportunity stages, conversion benchmarks, and follow-up processes. Conduct regular pipeline reviews and ensure timely movement of opportunities. Develop weekly, monthly, and quarterly revenue forecasts. Monitor win rates, sales-cycle length, average deal size, pipeline coverage, and other commercial KPIs. Identify stalled or at-risk opportunities and implement corrective actions. Strategic Accounts & Client Relationships Build trusted, long-term relationships with prospective and existing clients. Identify cross-selling, upselling, and account-expansion opportunities in collaboration with account management and delivery teams. Develop strategic account plans for high-value clients and prospects. Serve as a senior commercial contact during pre-sales, transition, and early-stage client relationships. Gather client feedback and market intelligence to strengthen services and customer experience. Proposals, Commercials & Negotiations Lead the development of proposals, presentations, statements of work, pricing models, and commercial offers. Collaborate with Finance, Operations, Legal, Technology, and subject-matter experts to develop commercially viable solutions. Lead contract and commercial negotiations while protecting margins and delivery feasibility. Review commercial terms, risks, dependencies, scope, timelines, and service commitments before finalization. Maintain high standards of proposal quality, accuracy, responsiveness, and brand consistency. Partnerships & Market Expansion Identify and develop strategic alliances, referral relationships, channel partners, and technology partnerships. Evaluate opportunities to enter new markets, launch new services, and expand into adjacent customer segments. Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, networking forums, and client meetings. Build a strong professional network supporting lead generation and market intelligence. Track partnership-generated opportunities and evaluate performance. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Reporting Collaborate with Marketing on ideal customer profiles, positioning, campaigns, lead generation, and sales enablement. Partner with Operations and Delivery teams to ensure proposed solutions are realistic and scalable. Work with Finance on pricing, profitability, budgeting, and commercial approvals. Coordinate with Legal and Compliance during due diligence, contracting, and risk reviews. Ensure structured handover of closed opportunities to account management, implementation, and delivery teams. Establish and track KPIs including revenue, qualified pipeline, conversion rate, win rate, average deal size, sales cycle, client acquisition cost, and forecast accuracy. Present regular business development performance reports to senior leadership. Maintain accurate CRM records, forecasts, activities, opportunities, and commercial documentation. Qualifications – Must Have Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Management, or a related discipline. 10–15 years of progressive experience in Business Development, Enterprise Sales, Strategic Partnerships, or a related commercial function. Minimum 5 years of experience leading Business Development or Sales teams in a senior leadership role. Proven track record of achieving revenue targets and closing complex, high-value B2B deals. Strong experience managing the complete sales cycle from prospecting through negotiation and closure. Experience developing go-to-market strategies, account plans, revenue forecasts, and sales performance frameworks. Demonstrated ability to engage and influence C-suite executives and senior decision-makers. Strong commercial acumen covering pricing, proposals, contracts, negotiations, and profitability. Proficiency with CRM systems and disciplined pipeline and forecast management. Excellent English communication, presentation, negotiation, and stakeholder-management skills. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Management, or a related discipline. Experience within BPO, outsourcing, technology services, SaaS, managed services, or professional services . Experience selling to clients in the United States or other international markets . Established professional network within relevant industries or target markets. Experience developing channel partnerships, strategic alliances, or referral programs. Familiarity with HubSpot, Zoho CRM, Salesforce , or comparable CRM platforms. Experience building or scaling a Business Development function or sales process. Understanding of account-based, consultative, and solution-selling methodologies.
