Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available.

Duties

  • The occupant of the position will be appointed to the following statutory role:
    • Director of Building Control – in accordance with the Building Act 2016
  • The occupant of the position is by virtue of being Director of Building Control a member of the Australian Building Codes Board, a decision-making Board established under Inter-Governmental Agreement by the Council of Australian Governments.
  • Provide high level advice on a range of issues that have strategic and/or critical impact on both corporate objectives and government policy.
  • Ensure effectiveness in the discharge of statutory functions under the legislation administered by Building Standards Tasmania.
  • Represent the Department and develop and maintain stakeholder relationships with key industry bodies, local, state and Commonwealth departments and authorities, and other related national organisations. Liaise, consult, negotiate and advocate at Senior Management level in a range of forums on complex and often sensitive issues.
  • Lead the development, implementation, review and continuous improvement of the policy framework and programs to ensure the delivery of core functions and the achievements of outcomes to support the Government’s strategic direction for increasing confidence of regulatory compliance.
  • Manage the assigned human, physical, information and financial resources of the Building Standards Tasmania in accordance with the strategic direction of the Department.
  • Provide leadership to subordinate managers ensuring their roles are focused on delivering best practice and that management practices are in compliance with contemporary management principles including managing cultural change.
  • As a member of the Department’s Senior Managers Forum, actively contribute to the overall policy development, strategic planning, effective management and future directions of the Agency.

Desirable Requirements

A degree or tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline together with considerable experience at management level.
