Director, Broadcasting
Pay Details:
The annual base salary range for this position in California is $100,000 to $120,000 per year. The starting pay for the successful candidate depends on various job-related factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, education/training, internal value, peer equity, external market demands, and organizational considerations.
The Director of Broadcasting oversees all internal and external production communications, including the club’s streaming video network, over-the-air television, and audio broadcast initiatives. The position is responsible for working with partners to ensure best-in-class live game coverage, pre-game and post-game shows, and other related programming. The incumbent serves as the primary contact for local and national rights holders and oversees sponsorship and branding activation initiatives on broadcast platforms. The position is the club’s primary broadcast liaison and manages all technical and production operations, including broadcast staff.
Responsibilities
Oversee all coordination of TV broadcast production for all home and road games to ensure proper transmission of each Ducks game
Serve as liaison between the Ducks, DTC, OTA broadcast partners, and production companies on a game-by-game basis for home and road games
Manage a team of 12 people, including four full-time employees, radio and TV broadcast talent, and personnel
Oversee production and segmented content for all live broadcasts, including pre-game, in-game, and post-game coverage
Oversee production and content for all shoulder programming for DTC TV
Develop an overall broadcast theme and content calendar that provides Ducks fans with a rotating slate of TV and audio programming throughout the season and offseason
Responsible for managing each layer of the Ducks broadcast department, ensuring flawless operational delivery and execution of all games, programming, and remote productions
Manage incoming and outgoing expenses related to the Ducks TV broadcast to properly relay revenue and revenue projections to leadership and ownership throughout the season, including operational costs, revenue-generating features, commercials, and related items
Manage all data generated by both Ducks Stream audio and TV, which will be used to provide direction to talent, staff, and leadership on new and innovative ways the Ducks can improve and adjust various broadcast productions
Be involved in the editing process for all audio and TV content pieces
Manage and oversee all Ducks Stream content and production
Execute and manage all aspects of the broadcast department
Direct and manage television, radio production, and technical crews
Serve as liaison between the Anaheim Ducks, Honda Center, regional and national broadcast partners/rights holders, and local media
Serve as point of contact for all television and radio broadcast-related matters, policies, facilities, and technical needs for the National Hockey League, including all regional and national television and radio rights holders
Serve as operations and production lead for broadcast elements and content, including graphics, talent interviews, video features, and additional shows
Oversee the execution of television and radio sponsor elements, commercial logs, and virtual signage
Work cross-functionally with all departments, particularly Corporate Partnerships, Marketing, Community, and Fan Development, to maintain strategic alignment of all contractual elements and programs
Manage department operational budget, including ongoing tracking and forecasting
As required, fulfill tasks associated with larger Media & Communications department initiatives, including large-scale PR programs and media relations activities
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Broadcasting, Technology, or a related field
In lieu of a college degree, significant field experience may be considered
8–10 years of experience in broadcast operations, production, or related fields
Experience in a video control room or broadcast truck environment preferred
Experience planning, implementing, and independently leading multiple projects
Experience managing live game remote operations, preferably with a regional sports network
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong strategic and analytical skills
Self-motivated and organized, with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely
Knowledge of hockey and the NHL landscape desired
Knowledge of all facets of broadcast operations, including crewing, scheduling, signal flow, and production requirements
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite, including Audition and Premiere Pro
Able to handle multiple projects at one time, remain detail-oriented, and work well under pressure
Able to work well with all levels of management, staff, outside clients, and vendors
Able to work a flexible schedule, including attending all home games and working nights, weekends, and holidays as required
Able to travel for away games, league conferences, and other meetings or events as required
