The salary range for this position is $155,770.00 - $214,183.00 annually. New employees are typically hired between the minimum and midpoint of the range, depending on qualifications, experience, competencies, and internal equity considerations.

JOB SUMMARY

Are you an accomplished audit, assurance, and finance leader who is motivated by integrity, sound governance, and public trust? AGLC is seeking a strategic and experienced Director, Audit Services to lead a high-performing portfolio responsible for compliance auditing, financial review, due diligence, and risk-informed assurance activities that support Alberta's gaming, liquor, cannabis, and charitable gaming sectors.

Reporting to the Vice President, Regulatory Services, the Director, Audit Services plays a critical leadership role in safeguarding the integrity of regulated industries while supporting responsible growth, accountability, and public confidence. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence policy, collaborate with senior stakeholders, and provide executive-level leadership on matters involving complex financial, operational, and regulatory environments.

As the Director, Audit Services, you will:

• Shape Risk-Based Audit, Assurance, and Regulatory Oversight
• Provide strategic leadership and direction for Compliance Audit, Financial Review, and Due Diligence teams, ensuring work is aligned with enterprise priorities, regulatory risk, and AGLC's oversight mandate.
• Oversee risk-based audit and financial review activities involving charitable gaming, lottery-funded organizations, gaming operators, licensees, applicants, and other regulated stakeholders.
• Ensure the effectiveness, integrity, and continuous improvement for audit, review, and investigative practices.
• Drive Due Diligence and Investigative Excellence
• Lead comprehensive financial, ownership, and background due diligence reviews involving complex corporate structures, significant transactions, and higher-risk regulatory matters.
• Support sound regulatory decision-making through thorough assessment of financial integrity, ownership structures, and business suitability.
• Provide expert guidance on fraud indicators, investigative matters, and risk mitigation strategies.
• Influence Strategic and Regulatory Outcomes
• Participate in organizational strategic planning and operational committees.
• Provide recommendations on legislation, regulations, policies, and industry practices.
• Present audit findings, risk insights,, and evidence-based recommendations to executive leadership and governance bodies to support informed and defensible decision-making.
• Represent the organization in meetings with government agencies, industry stakeholders, financial institutions, legal counsel, and external partners.
• Build Strong Partnerships
• Develop and maintain trusted relationships with gaming and cannabis stakeholders, community organizations, and government partners.
• Engage respectfully and collaboratively with First Nations communities and leadership regarding charitable gaming and cannabis-related initiatives.
• Lead discussions on complex financial, compliance, and operational matters with senior leaders across multiple sectors.
• Inspire and Develop Teams
• Lead, coach, and mentor experienced managers and subject matter experts while strengthening professional audit capability across the portfolio.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous learning, and professional excellence.
• Support talent development, succession planning, and employee growth.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
• University degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of post-designation experience in auditing, forensic accounting, business valuations, or related disciplines.
• Minimum 5 years of leadership experience, including at least 3 years in a senior management role within a regulatory, compliance, governance, or oversight environment.
• Experience working with Boards, executive leaders, or similar governance structures.
• Expertise in auditing, forensic accounting, investigations, fraud risk, and regulatory compliance.
• Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Ability to analyze complex issues and develop practical, risk-informed solutions.
• Exceptional relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience leading diverse teams through competing priorities and complex projects.
• Strong communication, influence, and presentation skills.
• Assets include:
• CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) and/or CFI (Certified Forensic Investigator) designation
