It takes the imagination and passion of all of us—from design and engineering to the manufacturing and marketing of our billions of MedTech products per year—to look at the impossible and find transformative solutions that turn dreams into possibilities.

Job Description

Role Overview

As a seasoned Market Access leader for the Advanced Patient Monitoring (APM) business within Europe, this role plays an important part in enabling sustainable patient access, competitive reimbursement outcomes as well as policy implementation, and commercial success across the region.

Guided by BD Excellence principles and the imperatives to compete, innovate, and deliver, the Director is accountable for translating strategy into execution, ensuring that market access activities are disciplined, evidence based, measurable, and closely aligned with APM regional and global priorities.

Main responsibilities

Reporting to the Vice President Public Affairs EMEA and working in close partnership with the APM Senior Director for Global Market Access, the Director is responsible for the following:

Strategy, Competition & Value (Compete)

Guide the development of robust, winning market access and payer value strategies for the APM portfolio, grounded in clear problem definition, payer insight, and competitive understanding.

  • Conduct and oversee payer and pricing research, market access landscaping, and opportunity assessments to inform prioritization and investment decisions.
  • Identify commercial and access barriers early and proactively drive risk mitigation strategies that protect and enhance APM adoption.
  • Identify common payer and HTA requirements across priority European markets and translate them into scalable regional evidence, value and access strategies.
  • Shape reimbursement and payment policy positions, leveraging BD advocacy priorities and engagement with trade associations and medical societies.
  • Proactively identify and evaluate new reimbursement, coding, coverage and funding opportunities that can expand access to APM technologies.
  • Depending on location, advise on Market Access strategy development in France or Italy across other Business Units within the BD Connected Care segment and with local colleagues

Innovation & Evidence (Innovate)

Partner closely with Medical Affairs, HEOR, Marketing, Regulatory, and Commercial teams to define differentiated APM value propositions and translate clinical and economic evidence into compelling payer narratives.

  • Act as a key partner to evidence generation functions, helping shape data strategies that address payer, HTA, and policy requirements for APM technologies.
  • Support the development of innovative access pathways, including coding, coverage, reimbursement, and alternative payment mechanisms, evaluating their commercial impact and scalability.
  • Drive continuous improvement in market access tools and methodologies in line with BD Excellence standards.

Execution & Results (Deliver)

Guide and support country affiliates in the tactical execution of regional market access strategies, including HTA submissions, institutional access initiatives, and payer engagements.

  • Engage externally with payers, policymakers, and relevant experts at national, regional, and local levels to advance APM access objectives.
  • Facilitate payer negotiations, including technical HTA‑related discussions, ensuring consistency, credibility, and alignment with regional strategy.
  • Develop and deploy high‑quality regional market access tools (e.g. value dossiers, payer presentations, VAC Packages) to enable effective local execution.
  • Maintain an active presence at relevant industry forums and medical society meetings to monitor trends and strengthen BD’s APM access positioning.
  • Represent APM in relevant trade associations and coordinate association engagement and advocacy priorities with regional Public Affairs, business and country stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with relevant clinical, economic and policy experts and key opinion leaders to support APM access objectives.

Product & System Expertise

Build and maintain deep expertise in BD APM products, their clinical use cases, outcomes, and economic value drivers.

  • Develop and sustain a strong understanding of payer systems, HTA frameworks, and reimbursement dynamics across Europe, with particular focus on key EU markets.
  • Monitor and interpret relevant healthcare policy, reimbursement and funding developments, translating changes into clear implications and recommended actions for APM and country teams.
  • Participate as a member of the APM European Business Unit Leadership Team, bringing market access, reimbursement and healthcare policy perspectives into regional business decisions.

Main requirements

The role requires the ability to compete by shaping favorable reimbursement and funding environments, innovate by advancing differentiated value propositions and access pathways for APM technologies, and deliver by driving consistent, high quality execution across countries and affiliates.

A core expectation of the role is the development and maintenance of deep knowledge and understanding of APM products, including their clinical application, economic value, competitive positioning, and evidence requirements. This product mastery is essential to engage with internal stakeholders as well as to support local strategies to credibly engage payers, policymakers, clinicians, and to ensure market access strategies are tightly connected to real world APM adoption and outcomes.

Depending on location, the role is expected to maintain a deep knowledge of the French or Italian Market Access landscape and function as a collaborative partner for regional and local colleagues in this regard.
