The Director, Airport Planning – Corporate Real Estate will be responsible for the planning, design, and construction oversight of complex corporate facilities in accordance with approved corporate space standards, schedules, budgets, and that meet all requirements of the airline.

What you'll do

  • Manage ongoing or planned airport projects to develop master plans that satisfy the objectives and requirements of American Airlines.
    Develop long-term capital improvement plans for American Airlines facilities including facility condition assessments and maintenance planning.
  • Develop project scope and definition documents in collaboration with multiple user groups, internal departments, and airport and business partners.
  • Prepare internal alignment and funding documents to facilitate decision-making on facility investments and major airport capital programs.
  • Oversee subject matter experts on baggage handling systems and facilitate broader engagement and use of these SMEs on long-range facilities planning efforts across the entire CRE airport folio
  • Collaborate with American’s CRE Properties Representatives in evaluating Airport Capital Improvement projects and construction implementation plans.
  • Liaise with other AA workgroups including the Commercial, Network Planning, Customer Experience, Operations, and Finance teams on overall strategy and specific airport facility issues.
  • Oversee project managers and support other team members with the development of project plans, cost estimates, budgets, schedules, and bid/proposal documents for consultant, designer, and contractor support.
  • Evaluate and select outside consultants, contractors, and vendors.
  • Develop and administer contract agreements in conjunction with internal procurement partners.
  • Provide written and verbal airport facilities overviews and project status updates.
  • Travel to airports and airline facilities to meet with local airport and airline stakeholders and supervise project implementation.

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications – Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience/training
  • 7 years of progressive leadership experience
  • 10 years of relevant work experience in planning, design, and construction
  • Ability to travel

Preferred Qualifications – Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Prior experience in aviation facilities planning and development
  • 15 years of demonstrated experience in planning, design, implementation and management of airport facility development projects

  • Ability to influence through outstanding interpersonal, collaboration, and negotiation skills
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with ability to handle complex topics comfortably and clearly communicate a strategic and tactical vision to all levels within the organization, as well as with external agencies and business partners
  • Ability to educate and inform internal and external stakeholders on the implications of various planning approaches and alternatives and facilitate relationships at all levels of the organization, both internally and externally
