WHY THIS ROLE IS IMPORTANT TO US

We are seeking a Director, AI Solutions to serve as the technical authority for all AI agent solutions built within the SMBS AI team. The Director leads the development of SMBS AI solutions end-to-end — ensuring they are built to production-grade standards and designed to integrate into the wider SimCorp AI ecosystem, infrastructure, and compliance frameworks.

With typically 7+ years of experience in production AI/ML engineering, this role is responsible for building and leading a core team of data and AI engineers — setting the technical bar, driving solution decisions, and ensuring everything the team ships meets production-grade standards that scale and can be maintained over time. The focus is on speed with quality: translating prioritised use cases into working AI solutions with a short time to market cycle.

This is not a purely managerial role. The Director codes on complex problems, conducts code reviews, and participates actively in technical design sessions. Solution decisions are made here, defining agent behaviour, data requirements, integration points, and expected outputs. This role is also the primary technical counterpart to the SimCorp Platform and Infrastructure team, co-creating the integration patterns that connect SMBS solutions to the broader SimCorp AI ecosystem.

WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

In your daily work, you will:

  • Select and evaluate AI frameworks, LLM providers, and tooling in alignment with compliance-approved technologies.
  • Define and maintain the technical solution framework for AI agent solutions, including agent frameworks, orchestration patterns, and integration standards.
  • Establish coding standards, testing practices, and deployment patterns for the AI engineering team.
  • Ensure solution decisions account for maintainability, scalability, and interoperability with the SimCorp Platform team's agent communication layer.
  • Translate prioritised use cases into technical solution designs, defining agent behaviour, data requirements, integration points, and expected outputs.
  • Assess technical feasibility and complexity of incoming use cases in collaboration with the AI Delivery & Governance Lead.
  • Design agent solutions that leverage cross-client data and operational intelligence patterns.
  • Conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance to Senior AI Engineers and AI Engineers.
  • Mentor the engineering team on agent design patterns, prompt engineering best practices, and production deployment.
  • Represent the SMBS AI team in technical discussions with the Platform team, contributing to and consuming shared orchestration standards.
  • Code on complex agent implementations, particularly during initial solution setup and technically challenging use cases.
  • Build proof-of-concept implementations to validate solution decisions before full engineering commitment.
  • Contribute to production code on critical paths while maintaining oversight of the broader technical portfolio.

WHAT WE VALUE

  • Deep practical experience with LLM-based agent frameworks.
  • 7+ years of experience in production AI/ML engineering, with at least 3 years in a technical lead capacity.
  • Deep software engineering fundamentals in Python and modern development practices.
  • Experience designing RAG pipelines, prompt engineering strategies, and multi-agent orchestration patterns.
  • Demonstrated experience building and leading high-performing engineering teams, with the ability to develop talent and maintain technical standards across the team.
  • You have a bias for delivery — you deliver quickly without compromising on quality, and you know how to get a solution from proof of concept to production.
  • Ability to make solution decisions that balance innovation with maintainability and production reliability.
  • Experience working in financial services or other regulated industries preferred.
  • Effective communication skills to engage with both engineering peers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • You thrive in a practical role where you both lead technically and contribute directly to complex implementations.
  • You have good English skills and are comfortable working in an international, cross-functional environment.

BENEFITS

  • Global hybrid work policy — We ask you to work 2 days a week from the office. If you choose, you can work remotely the other days. Of course you are welcome at the office if that is your preference.
  • Growth and innovation — Every 6th sprint is reserved for planning and innovation. So, with regular intervals you have a chance to explore and learn new skills or improve something that you believe will be beneficial to you, your team, or the organization.
  • Self-Direction — High degree of self-organization. Each team member has a high degree of freedom to plan, organize, and design their work.
  • Inclusive and diverse company culture.
  • Work-life balance — We believe that an equilibrium between professional responsibilities makes us all the best version of ourselves, both in private life and as colleagues in the workplace.
