Netsmart is seeking a Director, AI & Engineering Development to lead engineering execution for AI-enabled solutions across our healthcare technology platform. This leader will help translate product and AI strategy into scalable, secure, reliable solutions that deliver measurable impact for clients and communities.
This role is designed for a leader who has grown up through software engineering and architecture, understands how modern systems are built and operated, and can earn credibility with engineers while partnering effectively across Product, Data, Clinical, Security, Compliance, and business teams.
The Director will provide hands-on technical leadership and people leadership, helping teams operationalize AI capabilities responsibly while maintaining strong engineering standards, delivery discipline, and platform scalability.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & AI Delivery
• Lead engineering teams responsible for building, deploying, and operating AI-enabled and data-driven solutions.
• Translate AI and product priorities into engineering roadmaps, delivery plans, milestones, and measurable outcomes.
• Drive strong execution across quality, performance, security, reliability, scalability, and operational readiness.
• Apply modern engineering, DevOps, and MLOps practices to support continuous delivery and production excellence.
Architecture & Technical Leadership
• Provide technical leadership across application architecture, AI platforms, data pipelines, integrations, and cloud-based systems.
• Guide architectural decisions and engineering tradeoffs with a practical, hands-on understanding of software development.
• Establish and uphold engineering standards, reusable patterns, design practices, and code quality expectations.
• Promote platform thinking to enable AI capabilities that are scalable, sustainable, maintainable, and reusable across solutions.
Product & Cross-Functional Partnership
• Partner closely with Product Management to deliver AI capabilities aligned to client needs, market priorities, and business outcomes.
• Collaborate with Data Science, Analytics, Clinical, Compliance, Privacy, and Security partners to operationalize AI capabilities responsibly.
• Communicate technical strategy, delivery progress, risks, and tradeoffs clearly to senior technology and product stakeholders.
Responsible AI & Governance
• Embed responsible AI practices, including transparency, explainability, monitoring, continuous validation, and human-centered design principles.
• Support AI governance, risk management, privacy, security, and compliance efforts in partnership with leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Ensure AI solutions align with Netsmart’s commitment to trust, safety, responsible innovation, and community impact.
People Leadership & Operating Discipline
• Lead, coach, and develop high-performing engineering teams with a culture of accountability, collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement.
• Recruit, retain, and grow technical talent aligned with Netsmart values, engineering standards, and delivery expectations.
• Create clarity around priorities, decision-making, execution plans, and success measures to help teams operate effectively at scale.
Success in this role means becoming a trusted engineering and AI leader who can turn strategy into practical execution. You will help teams build production-ready AI capabilities, strengthen engineering discipline, and deliver scalable solutions that advance Netsmart’s healthcare technology platform.
You will be known for operating with technical credibility, driving delivery clarity, developing strong engineering talent, and partnering across the organization to bring responsible AI innovation to life for clients, clinicians, providers, and communities.
