The Opportunity

This is a meaningful leadership opportunity overseeing Academic Services for the largest online secondary school in Ontario. You’ll provide leadership and oversight to TVO ILC’s Academic Officers, Guidance Team and Teacher Markers as well as collaborate with divisional leadership, to ensure that TVO ILC policies, programs and related practices are communicated, implemented, and aligned with the Ministry of Education’s initiatives for improving student achievement.

How you will make an impact

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to Guidance Services, Academic Officers, and Teacher Markers.
  • Ensure the delivery of a strong academic program so that all students reach high levels of achievement.
  • Foster equity and inclusiveness in the development and implementation of programs and services (guidance, assessment, and evaluation).
  • Support and work collaboratively with TVO ILC students to enhance student success and provide information and solutions to our students, parents, and partners.
  • Develop and maintain efficient and accurate processes for registration, administrative requests, and assessments for placement and diplomas.
  • Proactively manage student services and resolve escalations and complaints from ILC students and partners.
  • Establish, update, communicate, and implement TVO ILC policies and procedures in collaboration with divisional leadership ensuring that the policies are compliant with Ministry expectations and education-related legislation; respond promptly to queries from the Ministry of Education.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to optimize effective operations supporting all TVO ILC students, including those in the partnership programs.
  • Work with colleagues across TVO to promote TVO ILC in Ontario and globally, and support the organization’s ongoing revenue generation initiatives
  • Stay abreast of Ministry of Education policy and curriculum changes and priorities

What you will bring to TVO

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership capacity in an education environment, with several years of experience in a secondary school as a school or system leader
  • Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
  • Principal Qualification Part 1 & 2
  • Understanding of and experience with online schooling
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of Ontario’s education system and Secondary Curriculum
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Education Act and associated regulations
  • Knowledge and understanding of Assessment and Evaluation policies and procedures
  • Understanding and appreciation of unique and alternative ways of curriculum delivery
  • Understanding and working knowledge of Student Information Systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current global trends in education
  • Proven ability in promoting equitable practices which value inclusiveness and diversity
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem solving and strategic thinking skills
  • Well-developed communication, collaboration, facilitation & interpersonal skills
  • Well-developed supervisory and management skills
  • Well-developed organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence, innovation, collaboration and teamwork
  • Demonstrated commitment to and support of at-risk learners
