Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Directional Drill Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience operating directional drilling equipment and will be responsible for leading a crew of 2–3 team members, including a utility locator and laborer. This role plays a key part in the successful and safe installation of underground utility infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

· Operate directional drill rig and associated equipment to install underground utilities (electric, gas, telecommunications, etc.)

· Read and interpret utility plans and job site blueprints

· Supervise and lead a crew of 2–3 team members to ensure safe and efficient operations

· Coordinate with utility locators to identify existing underground utilities

· Monitor bore path and adjust drilling as necessary to maintain proper alignment and depth

· Complete daily equipment inspections and report maintenance needs

· Ensure compliance with safety protocols and job specifications

· Maintain accurate project documentation and site records

Requirements

· Minimum of 3 years of experience operating directional drilling equipment (e.g., Vermeer(Preferred)or Ditch Witch equipment)

· Strong understanding of underground utility construction methods and best practices

· Prior leadership or foreman experience preferred

· Valid driver’s license with satisfactory DMV record

· Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check

· Strong communication and organizational skills

· Willingness to work outdoors in varying conditions and travel to different job sites as required

Physical Requirements

· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks

· Comfortable working in outdoor environments for extended periods
