  • Technical: Very large volumes of transactions in the organisation and manual nature of computations of current, deferred, withholding tax

Activities

Direct Tax Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure the timely and accurate preparation and submission of all direct tax returns (Income Tax and Withholding Tax) for the TMSA Group.
  • Ensure the timely preparation, submission, and accounting of tax payments to relevant tax authorities in the general ledger.
  • Assist with the timely and accurate reconciliation of all direct tax accounts, including deferred tax, for year-end accounting and Annual Financial Statement disclosures.
  • Assist with the timely and accurate preparation of monthly current tax, withholding tax, and deferred tax calculations, including the preparation of tax journals for the Group.
  • Perform quarterly reviews and analyses of high-risk accounts (e.g., legal fees, consulting fees, overseas travel, donations, repairs and maintenance) to determine tax implications, including the treatment of bad debts.
  • Assist with the management of the Tax Asset Register to ensure the correct tax treatment of asset acquisitions, disposals, scrapping, and expensing.
  • Assist with the annual review and submission of the TMSA Group's transfer pricing policies.
  • Assist with external, internal, and SARS audits relating to direct tax matters within the TMSA Group.
  • Support the NBE country finance teams on tax-related matters.
  • Assist in assessing the tax implications of business transactions to optimize tax benefits and minimize tax liabilities.
  • Initiate, verify, and implement changes to company systems and procedures to ensure practical, efficient, and compliant tax processes.
  • Gather and provide information required for internal (including SOX) and external audits.
  • Assist the Direct Tax Specialist with ad hoc tax projects.
  • Provide ad hoc tax support, training, and guidance across the Group.
  • Assist in ensuring that all tax policies and procedures are clearly documented and updated timeously.
  • Keep abreast of changes in tax legislation and regulations.
  • Train and support the intern assigned to the Tax Department.
  • Assist in optimizing tax benefits and minimizing corporate tax obligations within the framework of applicable tax legislation.

    • Compliance with all HSE policies, rules, guidelines, and legal requirements.
    • Promotion of a safe working environment.
    • Positive contribution to company HSE KPIs and risk reduction strategies.
    • HSE competency requirements are identified, maintained, and enforced within the area of responsibility.


Required Knowledge & Systems

  • Working knowledge of the South African, Namibian, Botswana, and Eswatini (NBE) Income Tax Acts.
  • Advanced SAP proficiency.

Candidate Profile

  • Post-qualification Diploma in Taxation or M Com Taxation advantageous.
  • Accreditation with accounting or tax body.
  • A minimum of 6 - 8 years’ experience in Corporate Tax (Tax accounting, tax compliance, tax advice and SARS Controversy).
  • Proven knowledge of financial statements; reconciliation skills; strong financial information analysis and risk identification.
  • Knowledge of MS Office, SAP and OneSource Corporate Tax (advantageous).
