The Arc of Greater New Orleans (ArcGNO) is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live meaningful, independent lives. Since 1953, ArcGNO has provided advocacy, education, and support services to individuals and families across Jefferson, Orleans, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, and St. Tammany parishes.

Our programs include family support coordination, supported living services, employment and job coaching, community integration programs, and transportation services that help individuals thrive at home, at work, and in their communities.

The Direct Support Professional for Janitorial shall assist individuals with developmental disabilities working across multiple locations ensuring the cleanliness of each location, working with and helping to develop skills needed to maintain each facility, and completing documentation directly related to daily activities and tasks.

Essential Job Functions

  • Support clients in performing job duties within the janitorial department
  • Transport clients between group employment sites using a reliable personal vehicle with valid insurance.
  • Assist clients with lifting and moving items weighing up to 30–40 pounds as needed.
  • Ensure work areas are clean, organized, and safe for clients.
  • Monitor and report client progress and participation in employment activities.
  • May be required to perform other non-specified duties.

Education/Experience Requirements

  • Experience in direct support roles or working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to pass DOT physical
  • Valid Louisiana driver’s license and auto insurance required.
  • Ability to lift and move 30–40 pounds constantly

OUR SERVICES:

The ArcGNO Family Service Coordination staff works with families of infants (0-3 years) to assess needs and identify effective therapies and treatments. The Community Integration and Employment Services' staff helps IDD adults 18+ explore their options for the future after high school. With job coaching and placement, including our Mardi Gras Recycling Center and community center day programs. Our direct service providers in the Residential Support Services program assist with a variety of tasks in the home and around the community.
