You've already learned how to support people. Now use that experience to help someone build skills, confidence, and greater independence.

Dungarvin is hiring experienced Direct Support Professionals and other human services professionals for our Day Program supporting adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

This isn't a sit-back-and-watch-the-day-happen kind of job.

You might start the morning leading a cooking activity, spend the next hour helping someone practice communication or money-management skills, head into the community for an outing, and later support someone through a behavioral challenge.

You'll teach. Coach. Encourage. Redirect. Adapt. And celebrate progress.

As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you'll support a small group of adults throughout the day in an active, hands-on Day Program environment.

Your day may include:

  • Leading cooking, art, music, recreation, and life-skills activities
  • Teaching and reinforcing skills that build greater independence
  • Supporting community outings and volunteer activities
  • Providing personal care, including restroom, hygiene, eating, and mobility support
  • Providing behavioral support and using trained de-escalation techniques
  • Supporting individuals with different communication needs, including nonverbal communication
  • Following individualized support and behavior plans
  • Driving company vehicles for outings and community activities
  • Completing accurate electronic documentation
  • Preparing, cleaning, and resetting program areas
  • Working closely with your team to maintain a safe, positive, and consistent environment

Our Day Program is built around engagement DSPs actively participate, encourage individuals, adapt activities when needed, and help create meaningful experiences throughout the day.

Experience Matters Here

We're looking for candidates who have experience supporting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, behavioral needs, or similar support needs.

Your background might include experience as a:

Direct Support Professional (DSP), Caregiver, Behavior Technician, Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), Paraprofessional, Teacher's Aide, Respite Provider, Residential Counselor, Community Support Worker, Job Coach, Employment Specialist, or similar human services professional.

We're especially interested in experience involving intellectual or developmental disabilities, behavioral support, life-skills training, or community-based services.

Just as important, you need the right approach.

Great DSPs are patient but proactive. They stay calm when things get difficult, communicate with their team, accept feedback, adapt when plans change, and understand that supporting independence means coaching someone through a task instead of automatically doing it for them.

You May Be a Great Fit If You Are

  • Patient without being passive
  • Positive, encouraging, and dependable
  • Comfortable taking initiative
  • Able to stay calm under pressure
  • Willing to give and receive feedback
  • Comfortable working as part of a team
  • Creative enough to make activities engaging
  • Comfortable providing personal care and behavioral support
  • Able to build genuine relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries
  • Committed to choice, dignity, respect, and greater independence for the people you support

Most importantly, we're looking for people who will actively engage with the individuals they support.

Qualifications

Who We're Looking For:

  • 6+ months relevant hands-on support experience
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Highschool Diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a company van
  • Comfortable providing personal care and behavioral support
  • Ability to respond appropriately during behavioral and emergency situations
  • Basic computer skills and able to learn electronic documentation systems
  • Good communication is key in this role. You’ll rely on your reading, writing, and communication skills to document care, follow support plans, and collaborate with both internal and external team members
  • Ability to lift and transfer 50 lbs.
