Overview

Bring your direct marketing expertise and people leadership skills to Physicians Mutual! As our Direct Mail Manager, you’ll lead direct mail and print acquisition campaigns that connect prospective customers with insurance products that meet their needs. You’ll manage a team of Direct Mail and Print analysts, oversee annual promotional budgets using industry knowledge and performance data to guide investment decisions and support profitable growth. This role combines strategic planning with hands-on campaign leadership. You’ll oversee campaigns from planning through analysis, develop your team, and manage relationships with agencies and production partners. Working with broadcast and digital, sales, product and analytics teams, you’ll help deliver a coordinated marketing approach and a consistent customer experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead direct mail and print acquisition marketing analysts. Manage a team of analysts that develop and execute marketing plans that support new customer acquisition, sales and profitability goals. Coordinate timelines, resources and dependencies to deliver accurate campaigns on time and within budget.
• Build a disciplined testing program. Develop annual testing plans across established programs and product lines. Test creative, offers, audiences, third-party mailing lists and media approaches. Use campaign results, customer research and industry trends to identify opportunities and guide future tests.
• Manage budgets and campaign performance. Oversee annual promotional budgets. Forecast spending and response, monitor results and recommend investment adjustments. Provide accurate monthly reporting that explains budget variances, campaign outcomes and next steps.
• Manage agency and vendor relationships. Partner with agencies, list providers and production vendors to execute campaigns. Negotiate rates, coordinate media availability and identify acquisition opportunities. Oversee coordination of list processing, printing and mail production.
• Coach and develop two analysts. Set clear priorities, delegate responsibilities and provide regular feedback. Support professional development, complete performance reviews and build a team culture grounded in communication, accountability and collaboration.
• Coordinate campaigns across channels. Work with broadcast, digital marketing, sales and other marketing teams to align campaign timing, messaging and the customer response experience. Coordinate anticipated call and lead volume, online response paths, fulfillment and follow-up marketing.
• Turn analysis into action. Collaborate with marketing and data analytics colleagues on audience segmentation, customer profiles, attribution and research. Translate findings into recommendations that improve targeting, campaign effectiveness and business results.
• Maintain quality and compliance. Ensure campaigns meet brand standards, company policies and applicable insurance requirements. Protect customer and business data, address execution risks and improve processes to strengthen campaign quality and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to lead, organize, motivate and provide guidance to team members.
• A college degree in marketing or business administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least five years of relevant direct marketing and sales experience, including substantial experience managing direct mail campaigns from planning through analysis.
• Experience selecting, testing and evaluating third-party mailing lists for customer acquisition.
• Strong knowledge of direct marketing practices, including media buying, budgeting, forecasting, list processing, mail production and A/B testing.
• Experience managing multiple campaigns while coordinating internal teams and external vendors.
• Ability to interpret response, sales and profitability data and translate findings into business decisions.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information to a variety of audiences.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft applications and experience using data and reporting tools.
• Knowledge of insurance products, customer demographics and market research.
