Explore your next role:

As a key member of the Flight Operations team, the Direct Entry Captain (Dash 8‑300) Aerial Firefighting will report directly to the Director of Flight Operations and will play an essential role in the safe and efficient operation of our Dash 8‑300 fleet. Our missions support aerial firefighting operations at international bases, working to protect communities from wildfires by providing reliable and responsive aviation support. This is a rotational position consisting of 8 weeks in the field and 8 weeks off.


  • Serve as Pilot-in-Command, ensuring the safe operation of the aircraft during wildfire suppression missions and maintaining the highest standards of safety for crew, mission personnel, and equipment.
  • Conduct aerial operations in support of wildfire suppression efforts across both domestic and international locations.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy and situational awareness while flying in demanding environments, such as areas with rugged terrain or rapidly changing conditions.
  • Responsible for briefing crew on planned operation of the aircraft, route to be flown, and any operational concerns.
  • Supervise and delegate responsibilities to Crew Members directly under their command.
  • Ensure parameters for operational control are maintained throughout flights.
  • Maintain on-time performance and accomplish flight objectives.
  • Liaise with Voyageur’s Dispatch department, ATC, FSS, and customers.
  • Ensure all necessary maps, charts, and navigation equipment and readily available on the aircraft.
  • Review, amend, and complete operational paperwork, Operational Flight Plans, and manuals as needed.
  • Lead safety briefings and simulated emergency scenarios.
  • Responsible for the safety and security of crew, aircraft, and cargo.
  • Proactively utilize Voyageur’s Safety and Risk Management system.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, air regulations, and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain qualifications required to crew Dash 8 aircraft.

Your Distinctive Ingredients for Success:

Only candidates that meet the minimum requirements will be considered.

  • Possess a valid CPL or ATPL.
  • Meet the minimum require 1500+ total time requirement.
  • Meet the minimum required 500 hours PIC time requirement.
  • Meet the minimum required 250 hours on a Dash 8 aircraft.
  • Meet Transport Canada requirements to operate a Dash 8 aircraft.
  • Current DH8 type-rating.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to identify solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Willing to work overnight shifts.
