Job Description

The Director is responsible for the on-going monitoring and changes of the physical plant to include all pertinent internal and external hospital spaces and building; the planning, assignment and coordination of activities of the division to operate the hospital’s facilities, security and environmental services effectively and efficiently.

Title and Definition
Job Duties:
  • Accurately completes records required by governmental agencies, OSHA and Metro codes; submits as necessary.
  • Works cooperatively with Metro Government regarding issues to include surplus property concerns.
  • Coordinates with regulatory authorities and city and state advisory committees regarding issues such as land use, building code/safety issues, accessibility issues.
  • Administers operational budget in support of planning and construction activities.
  • Oversees long-range planning and development of new capital improvement programs; oversees development efforts for facility standards and project management standards.
  • Evaluates Plant Services operations on on-going basis; recommends change to ensure efficient results. Reviews and evaluates projects in progress, contract compliance, and quality control.
  • Develops and maintains internal standards for facilities; oversees selection and provision of furnishings, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Provides managerial direction and control of departmental activities; plans, directs, and reviews the activities and operations of the department.
  • Directly manages the planning of construction projects which include development of an appropriate scope of work, including direct management through design, construction or post-construction phases; collaborates with other departments ensuring that work planned by Facilities meets user needs.
  • Oversees Biomed & Security vendors providing direction and oversight to ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for oversight of the emergency management program. Liaison to Metro and State OEM.
  • Creates a safe environment and climate for all personnel.
  • Timeliness of responding to Life Safety Conditions.
  • Responsible for the Environment of Care for the facility.
  • Ensures the Statement of Conditions is maintained and at all times current.
  • Timeliness of updates to SOC.
  • Accuracy of documentation.
  • Reporting to JCAHO.
  • Estimates timetables and costs of projects.
  • Maintains accurate records of projects.
  • Communications issues associated with projects.
  • Hires, trains, motivates, and evaluates personnel; disciplines and implements corrective actions as necessary.
  • Assign responsibilities to individuals to take action to improve the divisions' performance.
  • Develops supervisors and leaders within team.
  • Sets goals and expectations and provides feedback.
Job Duties Continued:
  • Provides leadership and supervises directly and through subordinate supervisors all department staff.
  • Monitors employee evaluations.
  • Creates request for proposals and negotiates contract/vendor proposals.
  • Develops or participates in writing specifications for equipment, systems, or services.

Educational Requirements Must possess an Associate Degree in Engineering or related field or have completed vocational training for a skilled trade such as Electrician or electrical engineering, HVAC, or Plant Operations A valid Tennessee Driver's License and the ability to effectively read blueprints is required.

Experience/Knowledge Required Five (5) years’ experience as a Director managing building operations, 10 years of progressive Facilities Management at the Director level Required
