The Role

This role will directly support Newport News Shipbuilding’s Contracts & Pricing Division. The selected Candidate will oversee a team of professionals in the creation, execution, and administration of contracts as well as international trade compliance. This position will support new / emergent business opportunities (including AUKUS) at Newport News Shipbuilding.

Daily Responsibilities for this opening include:

  • Administer, extend, negotiate, modify and terminate standard and nonstandard contracts
  • Conduct contract negotiation, contract administration, and customer contact activities to provide for proper contract acquisition and fulfillment in accordance with company policies, legal requirements, and customer specifications
  • Examine estimates of material, equipment services, production costs, performance requirements, and delivery schedules to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Lead / Manage a team of managers, administrators, and analysts
  • Prepare bids; processes specifications, progress, and other reports; advises management of contractual rights and obligations; compiles and analyzes data; and maintains historical information
  • Management of import and/or export functions
  • Core element compliance lead
  • Serve as a senior leader guiding cross-functional teams on international trade, export controls, customs enforcement, and global regulatory compliance

Additional Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure compliance with FAR, DFARS, agency-specific regulations, and internal policies across all contract activities
  • Compliance with HII-Corporate policies and procedures for all contract actions
  • Develop and implement contract strategies that align with business objectives and mitigate risk.
  • Monitor contract performance and compliance metrics, reporting regularly to senior leadership.

Must Have

Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline plus a minimum of 10 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience OR a Master's degree in a relevant discipline and 8 years of relevant work experience.

Nice to Have

  • Contract negotiation experience including knowledge of applicable FAR and DFARs regulations as well as experience with foreign military sales (FMS) cases
  • Experience with teaming and other business agreements
  • Knowledge of international trade, import, export, customs, tariffs, and other regulatory compliance matters
