Scope of Position:

Perform all meal preparation, cleaning, and resetting of the dining hall and operate the dish room as well as assist with preparation and distribution of camper snacks.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Currently have a Valid or Capable of obtaining Oregon Food Handlers card.
  • Currently have a Valid or Capable of obtaining AED, Red Cross or equivalent CPR and First Aid certification.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Dining Hall & Service Duties:

  • Set and clear tables for each meal.
  • Assist with serving food during meals as requested.
  • Maintain cleanliness of dining hall area including tables, floors, serving lines and bathrooms.
  • Wash dishes, glasses, silverware, pots, pans, and BBQ grill by hand or machines, as required.
  • Ensure dish room is kept clean, tidy and free of trip/slip hazards during and after completion of dishes.
  • Assist with all inventory procedures, making certain that food removed from the stockroom and freezers is properly accounted for and documented.
  • Assist with the operation of the camp canteen.
  • Assis with sweeping and mopping kitchen and dining hall as requested.
  • Take out trash from kitchen for pickup by service crew.
  • Clean and wash trash cans as requested.
  • Clean any spills in the kitchen or dining hall as requested.
  • Adhere to rotation schedule set by supervisor.
  • Help unload, more, and store supplies.

General Duties:

  • Foster and nurture Christian faith and discipleship in visible, fruitful ways to, and with campers.
  • Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationship will all staff, volunteers and campers.
  • Encourage adherence to camp and Salvation Army policies and procedures.
  • Provide support and motivation to all staff.
  • Turn in all camper-related forms promptly, such as, but not limited to, seeker forms, incident forms, safety reports, Notice of Concern, and Observation Logs.
  • Set a good example for campers and others including language, cleanliness, punctuality, sportsmanship, and table manners.
  • Responsible for routine daily cleanliness of public and personal spaces.
  • Assist in Staff Snack Evening, including but not limited to, food preparation, distribution and clean-up.
  • Participate and/or assist in all summer camp programs as requested e.g., chapel, staff meetings, campfire, camp-wide games, night-watch, free-time, electives, rise and shine duty, etc.
  • Last-day clean-up you will be responsible for the cleanliness of all living spaces and program areas assigned.
  • Enforce respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all staff, volunteers, and campers.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, hike, and twist continuously for a long period.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects, reach overhead.
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 25 and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to lift/unload/move food and supplies; lift dishes to their storage location; use kitchen equipment safely; operate electrical equipment and mechanical equipment; maintain appropriate inventory of food and supplies; operate dishwasher while maintaining appropriate temperature; determine cleanliness of dishes; food contract surfaces and kitchen area; assess condition of food.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • There may be phone and in-person contact with others from diverse backgrounds who may be angry, hostile, confused, or frustrated.
  • May be required to work in all areas of camp including, but not limited to, the kitchen, dish room, laundry facilities, and grounds.
  • The ability to work in a distinctively Christian environment.
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases.
  • Work outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather.
  • Work around dust, odor, high noise levels, and bodily fluids.

MISCELLANEOUS:

The Salvation Army does have a dress code. This will be shared with you at the time of employment.

The candidate chosen for this position must have a valid driver’s license, have an acceptable driving record. The candidate will be required to pass a motor vehicle record check and the TSA Motor Vehicle training.
