Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role purpose


As a member of a global team focused on the development and support of next‑generation, Industry 4.0 integrated data systems, this role provides technical guidance in designing and implementing advanced production and process data solutions for Corning’s Optical Connectivity business.
Key responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross‑functional partners (Manufacturing, Technology Development, Engineering, IT) to define, architect, and implement production and process data management systems.
  • Partner with global teams to standardize and industrialize data management systems and applications, ensuring consistent data flow and reporting across processes and regions.
  • Participate in all phases of system development, including design, integration, testing, production start‑up, training, and technology transfer.
  • Provide troubleshooting and root‑cause support during equipment installation and start‑up activities, ensuring timely corrective actions.
  • Transition technologies from early‑stage development to full manufacturing readiness.
  • Prepare and update documentation—machine specifications, operating procedures, drawing packages—for production release.
  • Train Engineering, IT, and Operations personnel on system use and maintenance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience in systems development, network architecture, database development, equipment integration, or software development.


Technical skills - Required

  • Experience with Industrial IoT (IIoT) technologies (edge computing, cloud computing, analytics) and protocols such as OPC, MQTT
  • Programming experience in HTML, C#, or VB.NET
  • Client/server development experience in Oracle or SQL Server environments
  • Basic understanding of relational databases (Oracle or SQL Server)
  • Familiarity with PLC and PAC technologies
  • Ability to write basic SQL queries (SELECT/INSERT/UPDATE)
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Proven ability to contribute to technical project teams in both leadership and supporting roles
