Job Description

Alternatively, Grant Thornton

At Grant Thornton we do things differently - looking to the future, driving ambitious growth and pioneering positive change in our industry. Providing audit, tax and advisory services, we empower clients through strategic insight, curiosity, and genuine partnership. And we empower our people with real opportunity, an inclusive culture and work life balance. A true alternative.

With over 5,000 people in the UK, and a presence in 150 global markets, we're on an ambitious journey, from great to exceptional, and we need the best people to help us achieve our potential. And with that comes the opportunity to help redefine what our industry looks like, and what you want from your career.

We’re looking for a (Senior) Associate to join our growing Digital Tax Consulting team. This role sits at the intersection of tax, data, technology, and consulting, supporting clients by designing and delivering practical digital tax solutions that improve how tax functions operate.

As a Senior Associate, you will take ownership of defined areas of delivery on client engagements, combining hands-on digital tax work with responsibility for producing high-quality, client-ready outputs. You’ll work closely with managers and peers and play an active role in supporting junior colleagues through review and day-to-day guidance.

The role requires strong analytical capability, a structured approach to delivery, and the confidence to operate independently within a collaborative team environment. You will be expected to apply technology pragmatically, manage your responsibilities effectively, and contribute to consistently high standards of delivery across engagements.

What you will do

  • Own delivery of defined digital tax workstreams, including managing timelines and outputs

  • Build, run, and improve digital processes, dashboards, and automations

  • Analyse data and translate findings into clear, structured, client-ready deliverables

  • Review junior outputs and provide constructive, practical feedback

  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency through digital solutions

Knowing you’re right for us

We’ve set ambitious growth targets for the firm, and we need the right people to help us achieve these. We’re looking for people who will bring ambition and drive to their role. In changing markets, we need to be able to work at pace and be adaptable to change and to be curious, asking questions of ourselves, each other and our clients to ensure we are delivering the services and quality we expect.

Joining us as an Senior Associate, the minimum criteria you’ll need is

  • Experience delivering digital, data, or automation-enabled work in a consulting or professional services environment

  • Strong analytics capability using Python alongside tools such as Alteryx, Power BI, KNIME, SQL, or similar

  • Ability to turn complex data into clear insights and structured client outputs

  • Confidently manage priorities across concurrent projects, providing clear communication to stakeholders, escalating issues proactively, and maintaining momentum to achieve successful outcomes

  • Apply an inquisitive and questioning approach to client engagements, constructively challenging the status quo, supporting process improvement initiatives, and embracing new and emerging technologies to drive better client outcomes.

  • Assist in managing engagement risk and quality by applying relevant policies and procedures, maintaining appropriate documentation, and supporting compliance with internal quality standards and external regulatory expectations.

It would be great if you had some of the following skills, but don’t worry if you don’t tick every box, we’ll help you develop along the way.

  • Practical experience using AI-enabled tools to support analysis, automation, or insight generation

  • Exposure to tax, finance, or regulatory processes and related data workflows

  • Experience reviewing work or coaching junior team members

What we’re looking for

A delivery-focused individual who takes ownership of their work, communicates clearly with clients and colleagues, and is comfortable working with ambiguity. You should be proactive, detail-focused, and interested in using digital and AI tools to support better outcomes for clients and teams.
