The Senior Product Consultant / Product Owner plays a key role within the Digital Solutions team, shaping the strategy, development, and delivery of client-facing digital products, data services, reporting capabilities, APIs, and self-service solutions across the institutional financial services landscape.

The role is responsible for identifying market opportunities, understanding client needs, and translating business objectives into scalable digital capabilities that deliver measurable value. Working closely with Product Leadership, Technology, Operations, Relationship Management, and clients, the individual serves as a key link between product vision and execution.

The successful candidate will combine deep institutional financial services expertise with modern product management practices to develop innovative digital capabilities that enhance client experience, increase self-service adoption, improve operational efficiency, and support business growth.

The role supports Product Management lifecycle activities including customer discovery, market analysis, product strategy, roadmap development, value measurement, launch planning, and post-launch assessment. The individual will influence product direction through direct engagement with clients, business stakeholders, and end users while leading delivery through Agile product teams.

Other Major Duties Include

  • Partner with clients, end users, and business stakeholders to understand strategic objectives, identify emerging opportunities, validate product concepts, and influence the product vision, strategy, and long-term roadmap.
  • Lead client workshops, product demonstrations, prototype reviews, and feature walkthroughs to gather feedback, validate solutions, and ensure product development remains aligned with market demands and client expectations.
  • Collaborate with Digital Product Management to help define the strategic direction, vision, and roadmap for digital products, data services, APIs, reporting, and client self-service capabilities.
  • Translate product vision and strategy into actionable deliverables, leading backlog prioritisation and cross-functional execution to ensure successful delivery and measurable business value.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients and internal stakeholders, translating business objectives and servicing requirements into scalable product capabilities and digital solutions.
  • Drive the evolution of data-first client experiences across APIs, digital reporting, data services, sFTP delivery channels, client portals, and self-service capabilities.
  • Maintain ownership of product roadmaps, requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, release readiness, and adoption planning.
  • Partner with Technology, Operations, Relationship Management, Sales, and Product Management teams to deliver measurable client and business outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve client experience, operational efficiency, automation, and digital self-service adoption.
  • Monitor client feedback, market trends, competitor offerings, and industry developments to inform product strategy and investment priorities.
  • Champion Agile and product management best practices, ensuring effective collaboration across cross-functional delivery teams.
  • Support business case development, investment planning, prioritisation processes, and ongoing value realisation activities.
  • Establish, monitor, and report on product success metrics, utilisation, adoption, and client satisfaction indicators.
  • Manage dependencies, risks, stakeholder expectations, and change impacts throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Remain current on regulatory developments, emerging technologies, and industry trends impacting Asset Servicing, Asset Management, Wealth Management, and Institutional Banking.
  • Communicate product enhancements, releases, strategic direction, and value propositions to clients and internal stakeholders.

Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of institutional financial services, including Asset Servicing, Asset Management, Wealth Management, and Institutional Banking.
  • Strong working knowledge of Product Management lifecycle disciplines, including customer discovery, product strategy, roadmap management, prioritisation, delivery, launch, adoption, and value measurement.
  • Deep knowledge of custody, fund administration, middle-office services, financial reporting, data distribution, and institutional client servicing models.
  • Strong understanding of digital servicing channels including APIs, data products, client portals, self-service platforms, reporting solutions, and file-based integration services.
  • Working knowledge of Agile, Scrum, SAFe, and modern product delivery methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex business requirements into practical product solutions.
  • Excellent oral, written, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and communicate effectively across business and technology functions.
  • Comfortable operating within complex technology and data environments.
  • Ability to simplify complex concepts and present them effectively to executive, business, technical, and client audiences.

Experience

  • 10+ years' experience within Asset Servicing, Asset Management, Wealth Management, or Institutional Banking.
  • Strong knowledge of custody, fund administration, middle-office services, financial reporting, data distribution, and institutional client servicing models.
  • Experience in Product Ownership, Product Management, Product Consulting, Digital Product Delivery, or a related discipline.
  • Experience defining product strategies, roadmaps, and priorities for client-facing digital platforms, data services, APIs, or reporting solutions.
  • Experience engaging with clients to shape product strategy, validate solution concepts, conduct demonstrations, and influence product direction.
  • Significant experience engaging directly with institutional clients, business stakeholders, and senior leadership teams.
  • Success leading global teams and delivering complex initiatives.
  • Experience driving operational efficiency, automation, and digital self-service capabilities.
  • Experience working across business, operations, technology, and client-facing functions to deliver measurable outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM), Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO), Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), or equivalent certification.
  • Formal Product Management training or certification.
  • Experience with API platforms, developer portals, data products, and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Relevant university degree and/or equivalent industry experience.
  • Related financial services or product management qualifications are advantageous.

Salary Range:

$137,400 - 233,600 USD

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
