About the role:

We’re seeking an experienced technology leader to step into the role of Principal – Product Owner – Customer & Community, Assets and Operations within the Information Technology Services team. This role is accountable for the strategic vision, lifecycle management, and operational performance of key digital products and platforms that enable Water Corporation’s digital modernisation agenda. You will lead the evolution of customer-facing and enterprise digital capabilities across areas such as web, mobile, customer experience platforms, integration, and digital services. Acting as a subject matter expert, you will ensure platforms remain aligned with Water Corporation’s business goals, digital strategy, and user needs, while driving innovation, improved customer experiences, and platform modernisation.

What the role will involve:

  • Define and maintain the strategic vision and roadmap for assigned digital products/platforms, ensuring alignment with enterprise, business, and digital transformation goals.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of digital platform direction, providing recommendations aligned with enterprise architecture and customer experience strategy.
  • Drive digital modernisation initiatives, uplifting legacy platforms and enabling scalable, secure, and user-centric digital services.
  • Advise on platform roadmap priorities, ensuring features and enhancements are value-driven and aligned to product and platform deliverables.
  • Act as the primary liaison between business stakeholders, digital teams, and vendors for all platform-related matters.
  • Capture and translate customer needs, pain points, and digital experience improvements into clearly defined epics and features within the backlog.
  • Ensure stakeholders are informed, engaged, and aligned with platform delivery progress and digital outcomes.
  • Oversee delivery, upgrades, integrations, and lifecycle management of digital platforms and customer-facing systems.
  • Maintain a well-defined, prioritised backlog aligned to customer value, accessibility, and digital experience goals.
  • Support delivery teams by providing clarity on priorities, resolving blockers, and enabling fast, effective decision-making.
  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, scrum of scrums, and retrospectives.
  • Ensure epics and features include comprehensive acceptance criteria focused on usability, performance, and customer outcomes.
  • Manage and monitor platform dependencies (upstream and downstream), particularly across digital, integration, and data layers.
  • Partner with operations and support teams to ensure digital platforms are secure, reliable, and high performing.
  • Champion Agile, DevOps, and modern engineering practices to enable continuous delivery and innovation.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging digital technologies, and customer expectations to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and capability-building across digital product and platform teams, fostering a high-performing, customer-centric culture.

Key skills and experience:

  • Degree-level qualification in a relevant technology discipline, with substantial experience in digital product management, platform delivery, and service integration.
  • Proven track record successfully delivering and modernising enterprise digital platforms, particularly in customer-facing environments.
  • Strong product management capability, including defining and managing digital product vision, strategy, and roadmaps.
  • Deep understanding of digital ecosystems, including web platforms, mobile, APIs, integration layers, and customer experience technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience driving digital transformation and modernisation initiatives in complex organisations.
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies, DevOps practices, and CI/CD toolsets.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to translate customer and business needs into digital solutions.
  • Experience enabling high-performing Agile teams, managing backlogs, prioritisation, and iterative delivery.
  • Ability to influence, negotiate, and deliver outcomes in a complex organisational environment.

We’re the principal supplier of water, wastewater and drainage services in Western Australia to hundreds of thousands of homes, businesses and farms, as well as providing bulk water to farms for irrigation.

Our services, projects and activities span over 2.6 million square kilometres. We have regional offices in Perth, Bunbury, Albany, Karratha, Geraldton, Northam and Kalgoorlie which allow our employees to provide a high level of professional expertise to customers.

We have over 3,500 employees and manage an asset base of over $37 billion in water supply, wastewater, drainage infrastructure and bulk water for irrigation.

We’re owned by the Western Australian Government and are accountable to our sole shareholder, the Minister for Water, for delivery of our services in a commercial manner. Water Corporation was created in January 1996, in a restructure of the water industry in Western Australia. The Water Authority in turn had been created in 1985 through a merger of the former Metropolitan Water Authority, which operated in Perth, the state capital, and the water and wastewater operations of the former WA Public Works Department. We’re the seventh successive agency to deal with these services in Perth, Western Australia.
