You know how to produce fact-based content for broadcast and social platforms that is highly engaging and informative.

You will bring a strong editorial sense and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment to produce content weekly. Your editorial understanding of political and current affairs topics will be used every day in your role.

  • Suggest and line up guests, prepare background notes, scripting and questions for both studio and field content
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Ontario’s political landscape, and the diverse communities in Ontario
  • Direct interviews in studio or on location
  • Interact with guests, panelists and members of the public/audience as required
  • Uphold sound editorial judgment and the ability to work under deadlines
  • Propose, develop, write and edit content in a variety of formats.
  • As needed, direct field shoots to capture powerful visuals and conduct interviews that capture the essence of each story.
  • Work closely with editors to craft engaging narratives.
  • Maintain a collaborative and positive work environment, fostering creativity and innovation.
  • Maintain social media presence; monitor social media in real time and use it to promote content and engage audiences
  • Develop efficient content production techniques and workflows
  • Determine the visual style, pace, tempo, and format of digital video content relative to each platform it will be published on
  • Ensure that perspectives from diverse and underrepresented communities are considered
  • Employ innovative ideas and production methods using contemporary visual storytelling trends, practices, tools and techniques
  • Assist in the production process with some basic edit and camera skills

What you will bring to TVO

  • Three or more years’ experience in journalism or other related field.
  • Strong storytelling skills
  • Excellent research and writing skills.
  • Familiarity with creating data visualizations
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of producers, hosts, editors and other production staff.
