About the American Connection Corps:

The American Connection Corps (ACC), an AmeriCorps program of Lead For America (LFA), is a service fellowship program aimed at helping communities build the digital connectivity necessary to expand opportunity and economic mobility, ranging from healthcare access to quality employment.

ACC Members spend a year serving with locally-rooted organizations, helping address the digital divide and strengthen access to opportunity. Through their service, they gain hands-on experience, build in-demand skills, and explore career pathways while making a tangible impact in their communities.

About Urban League Twin Cities

Urban League Twin Cities is a voice and catalyst for social justice, policy change, and equitable outcomes in the Twin Cities

The AmeriCorps Digital Literacy Trainer will help community members gain essential digital skills. Using Northstar Digital Literacy standards as a guide, the member will assist with developing and delivering training on core topics like financial literacy, emerging technologies, basic computer navigation, internet use, email, smartphone/tablet use, and online safety. Trainings will be conducted both in-person (at senior centers, libraries, community centers, etc.) and in hybrid formats (live/online) to accommodate all learners.

All activities will be conducted under the guidance and supervision of host site staff. This position is intended to support community digital literacy and capacity-building efforts and may not duplicate or supplant the duties of existing employees or volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

The ACC Member will:

• Assist with designing lesson plans and instructional materials aligned with Northstar Digital Literacy standards (covering basic computer skills, Internet navigation, email and communication, information literacy, & etc.).
• Create easy-to-follow handouts, slide decks, and exercises tailored to adult learners, especially older adults.
• Lead interactive digital literacy workshops and one-on-one tutoring sessions for seniors and community members.
• Cover topics such as using email and web browsers, setting up and securing smartphones/tablets, and practicing internet safety.
• Break down tasks into logical, step-by-step sequences (as recommended by adult education best practices) and adapt explanations to each group’s experience level. For example, teach short classes on “frequently-requested” topics like online job searching, digital safety, and basic computer troubleshooting.
• Facilitate virtual learning sessions and distance-learning orientations for participants who cannot attend in person.
• Help learners navigate online learning platforms and digital resources.
• Provide one-on-one technical support during and after classes.
• Help participants troubleshoot device or software issues (e.g. problems with email login or touchscreen tablets), and reinforce learning objectives.
• Build learners’ confidence by patiently guiding them through common tasks (copying photos, filling online forms, etc.) in plain language.
• Work with local partners (e.g. senior centers, libraries, nonprofits) to promote the program and recruit participants.
• Assist staff with coordinating an volunteer network or assistant program as needed. For example, you might set up tablets and devices for training, organize weekly practice labs, or lead multi-week training cohorts for community members.
• Maintain attendance and progress records for each participant.
• Collect feedback and evaluate outcomes (e.g. through simple surveys) to measure how participants’ skills and confidence improve. Use this information to refine future lessons.
• Report regularly to the program supervisor on service activities and achievements.

Learning & Development Opportunities

As an ACC Member, you will receive structured training and support throughout your service year, including:

• A two-week-long virtual orientation with the national cohort to kick off the service year.
• A week-long, in-person national Winter Institute convening with your ACC cohort — travel, lodging, and a per diem stipend are fully covered.
• Twice-monthly virtual training on skills for service, including project management, asset-based community development, grant writing, and serving vulnerable populations, plus self-paced curricula with opportunities to earn badges and credentials.
• A structured community listening tour at the start of service to understand local needs, assets, and opportunities.
• Dedicated 1:1 support from a Lead For America Program Coordinator and twice-monthly peer pod meetings for networking and professional development.
• Access to a national network of ACC Members, alumni, and community partners.

Requirements

• Passion for community service and connecting your neighbors to the digital tools, skills, and opportunities they need to thrive.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Interest in gaining experience in community development or digital inclusion.

Eligibility:

• Be a U.S. Citizen, National, or Lawful Permanent Resident
• Hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Be 17 years of age or older by the start of service.
• Have not already served four (4) or more AmeriCorps State/National terms.

Timeline:

We are currently recruiting Members to serve from September 8th, 2026 - August 13th, 2027. Members will serve full-time (approximately 40 hours per week), completing 1700 hours of service over the course of the term.

• A $33,000 living stipend (dispersed bi-weekly over the course of the service term)
