Third Way is a national think tank and advocacy organization that champions moderate policy and political ideas. Since our founding in 2005, we have served as a critical bulwark against political extremism by advancing values-driven, reform-oriented solutions on the defining issues of our time. Our work is grounded in the mainstream American values of opportunity, freedom, security, and democratic capitalism, and we advocate for the vital center across seven major areas: climate and energy, economy, education, health care, national security, politics, and social policy.
Third Way’s climate and energy program advocates for policies that rapidly deploy the technologies needed to decarbonize and lower costs across the United States. By focusing on what matters most to everyday Americans, we are growing the clean energy coalition.

Third Way is a national think tank that champions modern center-left ideas.
Our work is grounded in the mainstream American values of opportunity, freedom, and security. But we identify as center-left because we see that space in U.S. politics as offering the only real path for advancing those ideals in the century ahead.
Our agenda is ambitious, aspirational, and actionable. It is built on the bedrock belief that for political movements to succeed in our political system, they must relentlessly re-imagine their policies, strategies, and coalitions.
We are fighting for opportunity, so everyone has the chance to earn a good life; progress on social issues, so all have the freedom to live the lives they choose; and security, so we are protected from 21st century global threats.
Our competitive advantage lies in our high-impact advocacy campaigns that combine rigorous policy research with a unique and incisive understanding of the vast American middle—the people who ultimately decide majorities and provide mandates for change. We design our work to persuade elected officials, intellectuals, advocates, the media, and others with political influence.
Winner of the 2013 North American Think Tank of the Year by Prospect Magazine, Britain’s leading monthly current affairs magazine, for its ‘original, influential, and rigorous work on the most pressing challenges facing people, governments, and businesses.’ Third Way’s impact on the debate has prompted Reuters to opine: "Third Way is the future of think tanks" and The New York Times to note that the organization “has become a constant presence in Washington.” POLITICO’s Mike Allen wrote that Third Way is “the moderate voice of the progressive movement.” And Greg Easterbrook of The Atlantic observed that Third Way “is rapidly emerging as Washington’s most important beyond-ideology think tank.”
