Job Summary/Description:

WKYT in Lexington, Kentucky, is looking for a part-time weekend digital content producer for its award-winning and innovative digital platforms. We have all the tools for success and innovation in digital content: an outstanding, dedicated team in front of the camera and behind the scenes; live streaming capabilities with multiple live trucks and TVUs; access to a drone for enhancing coverage; and a podcasting studio.

This producer will help power both news and sports digital and social coverage on weekends — publishing breaking news fast, supporting game-night highlights/scores/recaps, and creating social-first video for station accounts.

Part-time: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. (~25.5 hrs/week)

Duties/Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 2 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., supporting digital publishing, streaming, and social coverage.
  • Publish breaking/newsroom content quickly and accurately to our website and station social platforms.
  • Support both News and Sports digital + social — including game nights: turn highlights, scores, and recaps fast across web, app, streaming, and social.
  • Work directly with our Streaming Desk to clip, distribute, and optimize live/near-live content.
  • Edit and publish content natively inside social apps (especially Instagram and TikTok) using platform best practices (vertical video, captions, hooks, etc.).
  • Create/produce vertical video for station news and sports accounts; operate (or learn to operate) our newsroom editing system to cut and export social-ready video.
  • Collaborate with news managers, producers, assignment editors, reporters, photographers, weather, and sports to anticipate content needs and execute coverage plans.
  • Strengthen stories with clean writing, headlines, basic graphics/templates, research, and consistent station branding.
  • Write clearly for multiple platforms under tight deadlines with strong editorial judgment, accuracy, and adherence to journalistic ethics and libel laws.

Schedule

  • Part-time: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. (~25.5 hrs/week)
  • Some holiday and late-night work may be required depending on sports/news coverage needs.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism/communications or related field (or equivalent newsroom/digital experience).
  • Must have consistent availability for Fri-Sun 2-10:30 p.m. schedule.
  • Demonstrated ability to publish quickly and accurately on digital platforms (web + social).
  • Comfortable editing short-form video; experience with in-app editing tools (IG/TikTok) strongly preferred.
  • Experience with a newsroom CMS and basic video editing tools preferred; willingness to learn our editing system is required.
  • Strong news judgment, clean writing, attention to detail, and calm decision-making under deadline pressure.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; thrives in a fast-paced, team-driven environment. Passion for both news and sports coverage a plus.
