Job Description

The Digital Content Coordinator is primarily responsible for maintaining the Catholic Review Media website (catholicreview.org) and posting content to the site, especially web-exclusive content. The coordinator will also assist with certain aspects of maintaining the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s website (archbalt.org).

The Digital Content Coordinator reports to the Managing Editor of the Catholic Review. Coordinating with the executive director of communications for the archdiocese and collaborating with the associate publisher and managing editor of Catholic Review Media, the Digital Content Coordinator works with communications and newsroom content providers (writers and photographers) and freelancers to ensure that the vision for a vibrant, dynamic website with fresh, daily content is achieved.

The Digital Content Coordinator is expected to work with the Managing Editor to produce “quick-turnaround” stories, often rewrites of news releases or brief stories based on single-interview reporting. The Digital Content Coordinator will also be assigned more in-depth news and feature stories and may be asked to produce videos.

Essential Functions:

Major Responsibilities

•Create and design web pages.

•In coordination with the Associate Publisher and Managing Editor, post content to CatholicReview.org using the content management system.

•Post Catholic News Service and OSV News articles and photos to CatholicReview.org using the content management system, making editing decisions and consulting with the Associate Publisher and Managing Editor as needed.

•Work with the Managing Editor to produce quick-turnaround stories for posting to CatholicReview.org.

•Work with the Managing Editor to produce in-depth news and feature stories.

•Assist in maintaining archbalt.org.

•Monitor web and social media analytics with the goal of identifying trends and maximizing traffic and engagement. Provide dashboards and other reports based on these analytics.

•Monitor page load rates, bounce rates, and other performance metrics to maximize site performance using the New Relic tool provided by the website hosting company.

•Handle help tickets related to CatholicReview.org, referring major web projects to an outside vendor when necessary.

•Participate in editorial planning meetings, offering ideas and input for stories.

•Post Captivate files for Catholic Review Radio and other podcasts.

Secondary Responsibilities

•With guidance and in consultation with the Managing Editor, compile and design the Catholic Review e-newsletter (usually twice weekly).

•Work with editorial staff to produce videos for sharing on social media or embedding in online stories.

Occasional Responsibilities

•Provide backup for the Managing Editor in cases of absence or overflow, including page layout, editing, or proofreading.

•Provide backup for the Social Media Specialist in cases of absence or overflow related to social media posting.

•In a backup capacity, create, design, and send Flocknote messages from the Archbishop and other archdiocesan departments.

•Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Position Qualifications:

•Experience with WordPress required.

•Experience with MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite (especially Photoshop and Illustrator) required.

•Experience with Google Analytics required; experience with Chartbeat is a plus.

•Experience in journalism, writing, and photography is a plus. Experience with Google Docs and Trello preferred.

Pay Range $$60,000 - $70,000, Annualized
