Digital Communications Manager

Position Summary

The Digital Communications Manager leads the development and execution of OKCPS digital communications strategies that inform, engage and connect employees, families, students and the community. This position manages the district's social media presence and creative content strategy; leads visual and multimedia storytelling; uses analytics to evaluate communications effectiveness; and supports internal communications, employee engagement, and family and community engagement initiatives.

The manager collaborates across schools and departments to ensure digital communications are accessible, timely and aligned with district priorities, Board Goals and Guardrails, and student outcomes.

Essential Duties

Great Systems:

  • Own and manage the district's Facebook and Instagram accounts, including content planning, scheduling, publishing and monitoring.
  • Maintain a social media content calendar aligned with district priorities, events, campaigns and key dates.
  • Monitor social media analytics and use data to evaluate reach, engagement and content effectiveness.
  • Manage and maintain the district's internal website, ensuring information is current, organized and useful to employees.
  • Write and execute communications and engagement campaigns for schools, departments and district initiatives.
  • Coordinate deliverables such as photography, videography, graphic design, printing and other creative needs through project completion.
  • Manage multiple communications and engagement projects, timelines and deliverables.
  • Establish and promote digital communications standards and best practices for schools and departments.
  • Assist as needed with media requests and events.
  • Stay current on emerging social media platforms, digital technologies, accessibility requirements and communications trends.
  • Research vendors, request quotes and coordinate with vendors through project completion.
  • Data Collection and Reporting:
  • Collect and organize data on communication and engagement campaigns.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of engagement initiatives.
  • Use data to refine engagement strategies and improve systems as needed.

Great Learning :

  • Proactively identify and develop human-interest stories that highlight student learning, achievement and opportunities across OKCPS.
  • Create engaging content for social media, internal communications, newsletters, press releases, media advisories, email and other communications platforms.
  • Help translate district initiatives, student outcomes and academic priorities into clear, accessible information for families, staff and the community.
  • Develop communications that connect district work to OKCPS Goals and demonstrate impact for students.
  • Support efforts that help families better understand and engage in their student's learning and educational experience.
  • Use communications data and engagement trends to identify opportunities to improve family understanding and engagement.

Great Culture:

  • Create social media and communications content that authentically reflects the students, families, employees and communities served by OKCPS.
  • Ensure district social media channels maintain a consistent, engaging and recognizable OKCPS voice.
  • Support opportunities to gather family and community feedback and elevate stakeholder voice in district communications and engagement efforts.
  • Help strengthen relationships with families, community organizations and district partners through consistent communication and engagement.
  • Serve as a brand champion and assist schools and departments with maintaining district brand standards, including school apparel and materials.
  • Ensure branding and messaging align with district goals, vision and mission across social media, print, video and internal communications.
  • Support communications and engagement efforts that strengthen belonging, equity, trust and connection across OKCPS.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Support the team with family engagement, community partnerships, volunteer efforts, events and other district initiatives.
  • Assist volunteer application process, including approvals, denials and follow-up with applicants and schools.
  • Support the partnership process from initial request through approval, including gathering information, coordinating reviews and communicating next steps.
  • Coordinate new and renewing MOUs, including routing for review and signatures and tracking their status.
  • Support assigned family and community engagement projects through planning, communication, logistics and follow-up.
  • Support outreach to families, schools and community partners through communications, promotional materials and event information.
  • Plan employee engagement efforts, including appreciation, recognition and team-building activities, and develop communications that keep employees informed and connected.
  • Serve as a liaison for schools and departments and work across the Communications and Engagement team to coordinate projects and respond to needs.
  • Work with information of a sensitive, complex and confidential nature with discretion and sound judgment.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Write, edit and approve content for social media, internal communications, family communications, newsletters, presentations and other district materials.
  • Ensure digital content follows district branding, editorial, accessibility and communications standards.
  • Support communications during emergencies, high-profile events and other time-sensitive district situations.
  • Collaborate closely with the Strategic Communications Director and other Communications & Engagement team members to coordinate messaging, campaigns and communications priorities.
  • Track and report digital communications outcomes and recommend strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of district communications and engagement priorities.

Job Specifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, digital media or a related field.
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in communications, public relations, social media, marketing or a related field.
  • Experience developing and executing digital communications, social media and content strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience managing professional social media accounts, including Facebook and Instagram.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, including knowledge of AP style.
  • Experience using analytics to measure performance and inform communications strategy.
  • Ability to develop compelling written, visual and multimedia content for diverse audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with schools, departments, families and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead multiple projects, prioritize competing needs and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with content management systems, digital accessibility and communications best practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain consistent branding, voice and messaging.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in K-12 education, government, nonprofit or another public-facing organization.
  • Experience communicating with multilingual and diverse audiences.
  • Experience with internal communications or community engagement.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Experience working in diverse, multilingual, urban educational environments is highly desirable.

FSLA Status: Exempt

Compensation: Salary Schedule 804 - Step placement based on experience
