As a Digii Backend Engineer, you will be responsible for developing scalable and maintainable backend services that support business-critical applications. You will work extensively with Java and Spring-based technologies, design RESTful APIs, and build event-driven solutions using Kafka
The role involves participating throughout the software development lifecycle, from understanding requirements and designing solutions to development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support. You will also contribute to improving system performance, reliability, security, and engineering practices.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Java and Spring
- Build robust, secure, and high-performance RESTful APIs and backend services.
- Develop event-driven and distributed systems using Apache Kafka
- Design efficient application architectures that support scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Translate functional and technical requirements into well-designed software solutions.
- Write clean, reusable, testable, and maintainable code following established engineering standards.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to coding standards and best practices.
- Troubleshoot application issues and identify root causes across development and production environments.
- Optimise application performance, scalability, and resource utilisation.
- Collaborate with product managers, architects, frontend engineers, QA, DevOps, and other stakeholders.
- Develop unit and integration tests to ensure application quality and reliability.
- Support CI/CD, deployment, monitoring, and production-release activities.
- Work with databases and external systems to develop reliable data-processing solutions.
- Contribute to technical documentation, architecture discussions, and design reviews.
- Identify opportunities to improve development processes, system architecture, and engineering efficiency.
- Stay current with evolving backend technologies, Java ecosystem updates, distributed systems, and cloud-native practices.
What Makes You a Great Fit
- 4+ years of professional experience in backend software development.
- Strong hands-on expertise in Java and object-oriented programming.
- Solid experience with Spring Framework / Spring Boot and developing enterprise applications.
- Strong understanding of Apache Kafka, event-driven architecture, producers, consumers, topics, partitions, and message-processing patterns.
- Proven experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and microservices
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle, design principles, data structures, and common design patterns.
- Experience working with relational or NoSQL databases and writing efficient queries.
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance-optimisation skills.
- Good understanding of distributed systems, scalability, fault tolerance, and application reliability.
- Experience with Git and modern development workflows.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, or cloud platforms will be an advantage.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Strong ownership mindset and ability to independently drive technical tasks from development through delivery.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
