Job Description

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Ensures that each patient receives the best nutritional care possible within the dietary restrictions for the nature of that disease state.
  2. Charts appropriately in the record of each patient identified to be at nutritional risk.
  3. Performs Physician Ordered Diet Instructions and Nutritional Screenings for therapeutic diets, utilizing approved instruction materials and methods.
  4. Calculates diabetic, renal and other therapeutic diets and suggest changes in meal patterns as necessary.
  5. Calculates all enteral and parenteral nutrition, calorie counts and provides documentation in the electronic medical record.
  6. Develops and updates nutrition education materials.
  7. Develops skills of other clinical staff through in services.
  8. Submits reports to the Director on a pre-determined basis concerning Q.A. studies and other information requested.
  9. Maintains current registration through continuing education.
  10. Responsible for all Cardiology patients including teaching the Heart Healthy Class for the Cardiac Rehab outpatient unit.

Secondary Job Duties That May be Reassigned:

  1. Updates and revises all Food Service manuals as necessary.
  2. Plans the work flow and develops job procedures for the Clinical Supportive Staff.
  3. Performs other related duties as assigned.
  4. Serves as a resource person in aspects of nutritional care.
  5. Serves on committees as requested.

Job Specifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university based on the required courses outlined by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Experience: Completion of a Coordinated Program or Dietetics Internship Program required by the Accreditation Council for Education for Nutrition & Dietetic (ACEND) standards
  • Registration or Registration Eligible, With registration to be obtained within 12 months of hire. Two years experience in hospital environment preferred but not required
