Job Description

Provides comprehensive dietetic service to the Med/Surg and OB patients. Will demonstrate the ability to provide services to infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics. Ensures that appropriate menus and diets are provided according to physician instruction, nutritional assessment and patient preference.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Serves as an active member of the interdisciplinary team by conducting comprehensive nutrition screening and assessments on patients using the Nutrition Care Process to establish a nutrition diagnosis and intervention. Provides dietetic services to Med/Surg, ICU, and OB.
  • Demonstrates a thorough and up to date knowledge of the application of medical nutrition therapy to the implementation of a care plan for individual patients.
  • Completes all required documentation in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Assesses and determines enteral and parenteral nutrition needs and tolerance for necessary patients.
  • Serves as expert on clinical nutrition through education and marketing to physicians, patients, students, and other health professionals.
  • Works directly with Nutrition Services Manager to ensure appropriate quality standards and regulatory agency (JCAHO & State) standards are being met. Keeps policies and procedures up to date.
  • Member of PRHC Wellness Committee, creating activities and goals to advocate for peer wellness.
  • Provides coverage for other Dietitians in their absence. Takes turn being ‘on-call’.

JOB SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Four-year degree from an accredited institution.
  • Licensure as a clinical dietitian in Iowa.
  • Prior experience in a dietetic role in a health care environment.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to write and document adequately and per regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to organize tasks and to work in a busy environment.
  • Ability to work with detailed information and to demonstrate accuracy.
  • Ability to tolerate stress.
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision.
  • High level of responsibility and ability to organize tasks efficiently
