The Dietetic Inspector position reports to an office in London (Laurel Co.), KY and works with a survey team
in the following counties: Adair, Bell, Boyle, Breathitt, Casey, Clay, Clinton, Cumberland, Estill, Floyd,
Garrard, Green, Harlan, Jackson, Johnson, Knott, Knox, Laurel, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Lincoln, McCreary,
Madison, Magoffin, Marion, Martin, Menifee, Metcalfe, Monroe, Morgan, Owsley, Perry, Pike, Powell, Pulaski,
Rockcastle, Russell, Taylor, Wayne, Whitley, Wolfe. We encourage applicants from these counties to apply.

Description

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) performs many varied functions for the Cabinet for Health and Family
Services. OIG has six Divisions, Division of Regulated Child Care, Division of Health Care, Certificate of
Need, Division of Kentucky Health Information Exchange, Division of Telehealth, and the Division of Audits and
Investigations. These Divisions cover a wide variety of job tasks and duties in varied settings throughout
Kentucky, which include inspecting and licensing childcare and healthcare facilities and services, and
conducting investigations of complaints in those facilities, as well as conducting Medicaid fraud and other
types of complaints for the Cabinet.

As a Dietetic Inspector, you will deliver specialized expertise focused on the dietary aspects within
healthcare facilities. The Dietetic Inspector provide dietary expertise for certification and licensing of
various types of health care facilities in the Southern Enforcement Branch. This position does require extensive in-state travel, overtime, weekend work, and overnight stays depending on the type of survey and the location of the facility being inspected. It also requires the physical ability
and energy to traverse large healthcare facilities for extended periods of time during surveys and inspections.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Conduct team-based surveys for certification and licensure of all types of health care facilities. This position provides the dietary expertise as a member of the survey team.
  • Conduct complaint investigations regarding non-compliance with regulatory requirements focused on the dietary component in healthcare facilities.
  • Work as part of a team or independently to conduct dietary inspections as part of the licensure and certification surveys for healthcare facilities and services on-site at the facility and will determine if deficient practice and regulatory violations exist in a facility.
  • Conduct complaint investigations with expertise focused on the dietary component of healthcare facilities to determine if regulatory violations have occurred.
  • Accurately document regulatory violations by preparing written Statements of Deficiencies and will accurately document complaint investigation results and findings using the complaint narrative format.
  • Determine facility compliance through accurate interpretation of all pertinent regulations and by following Division guidelines and policies and procedures.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes to regulations and survey processes and procedures.
  • Provide technical assistance and interpretation of regulations to other staff and providers as needed and requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with people of diverse backgrounds and in diverse settings.
  • Ability to be flexible with work schedules, work assignments, and overtime needs.
  • Prefer experience working in the healthcare field, preferably in a healthcare facility or service as a Dietician.
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills.
  • Proficiency with use of computers, tablets, smart phones for daily tasks.
  • Ability to travel, as needed, mostly in Kentucky and the counties the Enforcement Branch covers. Rare occasions of travel to other states may be required.
  • Physical ability and energy to stand and traverse large healthcare facilities for extended periods of time during surveys and inspections.

Must be licensed as a dietitian by the Ky. Board of Licensure and Certification for Dietitians and Nutritionists http://bdn.ky.gov Must be registered as a dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the American Dietetic Association. http://www.cdrnet.org Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
