Position: Diesel Technician – Crane, Boom & Utility Truck Specialist
Location: Carol Stream, IL

Pay Range: $35.00–$50.00/hour (DOE)
Interstate Power Systems is seeking a skilled Diesel Technician with experience—or strong interest—in repairing and diagnosing utility work trucks equipped with cranes, boom lifts, and aerial systems.
This role focuses heavily on troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems on work trucks used in utility, construction, and emergency response applications. Experience with—or willingness to learn—emergency vehicle ladder systems and dielectric testing is highly valued.
You’ll work both in the shop and in the field to ensure equipment is operating safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnostics & Repair
- Diagnose and repair work trucks with cranes, boom lifts, and aerial equipment
- Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems across complex equipment
- Perform repairs on boom arms, lift systems, crane components, and support structures
Aerial & Specialty Systems
- Inspect, maintain, and repair bucket trucks and aerial lift equipment
- Assist with or perform emergency vehicle ladder system diagnostics and repairs
- Conduct and support dielectric testing to ensure equipment meets safety standards
Hydraulics & Electrical
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic pumps, hoses, cylinders, and valves
- Troubleshoot electrical systems including controls, sensors, wiring, and safety circuits
- Address issues impacting lift performance, control functionality, and safety systems
Preventative Maintenance
- Perform scheduled maintenance including fluid checks, brake inspections, and component servicing
- Ensure safe and reliable operation of all aerial and utility equipment
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure equipment meets OSHA, DOT, and ANSI safety standards
- Inspect and verify safe operation of boom lifts, cranes, and ladder systems
- Maintain proper documentation of inspections, repairs, and testing
Field Service
- Respond to field service calls to diagnose and repair equipment on-site
- Minimize downtime for customers through efficient troubleshooting and repairs
Qualifications
Experience & Skills
- Experience with work trucks, cranes, aerial lifts, or heavy equipment preferred
- Strong ability to diagnose hydraulic and electrical systems
- Mechanical aptitude with a problem-solving mindset
- Interest or experience in emergency vehicle equipment (ladder systems) is a plus
Certifications (Preferred)
- ASE certifications or equivalent
- Aerial Work Platform / Working at Heights certification
- Experience with or exposure to dielectric testing is a plus
