What You’ll Do

As a Tech B, you’ll perform mid-level diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance to keep our fleet operating safely and efficiently:

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues across fleet vehicles and equipment
  • Perform maintenance on engines, brakes, suspension, electrical, and hydraulic systems
  • Complete repairs identified through DVIRs and work orders
  • Use diagnostic tools and onboard computer systems to troubleshoot failures
  • Follow factory service manuals to ensure accurate and efficient repairs
  • Perform safety inspections on vehicles and equipment
  • Communicate with drivers and supervisors regarding vehicle issues and preventive maintenance
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation for all work performed
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and OSHA-compliant work environment
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and strong work ethics
  • Support and assist lower-level technicians as needed

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • Suspension systems
    • Brake systems
    • Electrical systems
    • Hydraulic systems
  • Ability to diagnose and repair medium- and heavy-duty vehicles
  • Experience using diagnostic tools and interpreting service manuals
  • Ability to complete work within Standard Repair Times (SRTs) and estimate labor/material needs
  • Strong attention to safety, quality, and detail
  • Team-oriented mindset with willingness to support others in the shop
  • CDL Class B preferred (or ability to obtain within 12 months)

The employee must be able to:

  • Wear and properly use all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Maintain stamina to perform consistent physical work throughout the shift
  • Perform frequent physical movements, including walking, bending, twisting, crouching, and lifting
  • Work safely in environments with exposure to waste materials

Physical demands include:

  • Entering and exiting a commercial vehicle cab 50–100 times per day
  • Lifting:
    • Up to 75 lbs from floor to waist height unassisted
    • Up to 50 lbs from floor to shoulder height unassisted
    • Up to 50 lbs overhead unassisted
  • Pushing and pulling up to 50 lbs unassisted
  • Performing repetitive movements 100–200 times per day, including:
    • Bending at the knees and waist
    • Reaching overhead or outward with extended arms
    • Twisting at the waist
  • Working in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and road call situations

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings
  • Regular exposure to environmental conditions and waste collection operations
  • Occasional exposure to extreme weather during field assignments and roadside service
