Job Description

The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing diesel-powered trucks and specialty equipment including jet/vac trucks, combination sewer cleaning trucks, vacuum trucks, street sweepers, and other heavy-duty contractor equipment. This position ensures that all vehicles and mounted systems such as high-pressure water jetting systems, vacuum systems, hydraulic components, and sweep systems remain in safe and reliable operating condition.

Essential Job Functions - Diesel Mechanic:

  • Maintain and repair diesel trucks of varying sizes including jetter trucks, vacuum trucks, combo trucks, street sweepers, roll-offs, dump trucks, tractors/trailers, and service trucks.
  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair high-pressure water jetting systems, vacuum pumps, blowers, tanks, hose reels, and sewer cleaning equipment.
  • Maintain and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems on trucks and mounted equipment.
  • Maintain and repair gas and diesel engines, generators, compressors, and auxiliary power units used on vac trucks and sweepers.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on jet/vac units, combo units, and sweeper systems to ensure reliability and DOT compliance.
  • Troubleshoot and repair street sweeper systems including brooms, conveyors, spray systems, and hopper components.
  • Work with and instruct field personnel on proper operation of jetters, vac trucks, combo trucks, and sweepers.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle and equipment maintenance records.
  • Document preventive maintenance and repairs to maintain D.O.T. and company compliance requirements.
  • Follow all company and OSHA safety procedures and prioritize safe work practices.
  • Work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly with supervisors and operators.
  • Maintain a clean and organized shop and work area.

Requirements / Qualifications - Diesel Mechanic:

  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Ability to obtain a CDL Class B Permit within the first 90 days
  • Must obtain CDL B with Air Brake Endorsement within 180 days of employment. Company offers in-house CDL program to help achieve this metric.
  • Must have own tools.
  • Working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, vacuum systems, high-pressure water systems, and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Experience working on jet/vac trucks, combo trucks, sewer cleaning equipment, or street sweepers preferred.
  • Ability to pass required safety training, background check, and drug screening.
  • OSHA 10, OSHA 40, or other safety certifications a plus.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Dependable, safety-minded, and quality-focused.

Schedule - Diesel Mechanic:

  • Day Shift, Monday–Friday
  • Overtime available
