PURPOSE
The purpose of this position is to minister to the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of individuals and/or communities that have migrated either to or through Mexico. Because of their lack of resources, legal status, and different ethnic backgrounds, these individuals and families find it difficult to navigate or integrate into the larger Mexican society. The missionary would work alongside Resonate’s partners in Mexico to provide spiritual, emotional, and physical assistance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following

  1. Share the gospel with displaced individuals and communities and offer spiritual guidance and pastoral care.
  2. Connect displaced individuals and communities with people and organizations that can assist them.
  3. Educate local churches on the needs of displaced people and motivate them to get involved with ministry to them in appropriate ways.
  4. Work alongside a Mexican partner organization, and conform wholeheartedly to its protocols concerning safety, confidentiality, and conduct among vulnerable populations.
  5. Communicate the nature and value of Resonate Global Mission's ministries, vision, and values to the CRCNA and beyond, and participate in support raising for missionary support and appropriate projects.
  6. Raise funds for personal support and designated funding through direct communication.
  7. Carry out periodic “ReConnects” according to Resonate's schedule and policy.
  8. Participate in regional team meetings, including annual retreat.
  9. Manage and maintain necessary files, records, and equipment.
  10. Participate in Resonate events such as Town Halls, In-Services, security training, personnel reviews, etc.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERTISE:

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Professing membership in a Christian Reformed congregation, or of a church in communion with the CRCNA, and agreement with the doctrine of the church signified by signing a covenant statement.
  2. Intercultural respect and sensitivity, and the ability to live and work in an intercultural ministry context.
  3. Ability to minister to the needs of vulnerable populations, and the disposition and commitment to improve that ability through continued learning about issues related to migrants and diaspora communities.
  4. Willingness to learn the culture and language of the specific ethnic community in Mexico.
  5. Ability to see and respond to needs in an unstructured setting and independently make decisions.
  6. Skill in connecting vulnerable populations with potential helpers and navigating diverse institutional and cultural settings while ensuring effective communication among stakeholders.
  7. Fluency in English required. Intermediate/conversational Spanish, and the willingness to become fluent are required.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work with vulnerable people, e.g., emotional difficulties, interpersonal conflicts, addictions, violent trauma.
  9. Ability to navigate and adapt to a foreign country and culture.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
  2. Significant intercultural experience in a non-profit organization is preferred.
  3. Significant previous experience in ministries inside and outside the local church setting.

PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
The employee would need the physical capacity to function at this elevation and in occasionally high air pollution. The employee would need to be able to get around the city by subway, buses, taxis and walking (note that Mexican sidewalks can be difficult to navigate), and around the country mostly by flying.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee would be working in a variety of settings: existing detention centers, hostels and shelters, and churches.

****Intermediate Steps
The successful candidate for this position will pass through two intermediate steps before taking up the tasks outlined in this position description; the rate range for each step is included.

Step #1Missionary Candidate: The purpose of this position is to prepare for international service by building a network of prayer, care and financial support in North America that will enable future ministry. Ordinarily, this will progress from part-time to full-time as the support network grows through the work of the candidate and the missionary support team that is designed for this purpose. One can expect to be in this role for 6-12 months, depending on how quickly the support network comes together.

Step #2Missionary in Training: The purpose of this role is to develop language and culture skills, ministry skills and relationships that will enable future ministry, and begin to use those in ministry. Ordinarily, one can expect to be in this role for 6 to 18 months, depending on prior background and experience. The pay range for this step is US or Canada on the International scale.
