Job Description



The Dialysis Technician is responsible for providing direct patient care and technical support in the delivery of hemodialysis treatments under the supervision of a registered nurse. This role performs dialysis procedures, monitors equipment, and supports patient safety and comfort during treatment. The Dialysis Technician ensures adherence to clinical protocols, infection control guidelines, and quality standards to support optimal patient outcomes.

Essential Functions

  • Performs hemodialysis procedures in accordance with established clinical guidelines and protocols.
  • Monitors patients during dialysis treatment, including vital signs, fluid status, and potential adverse reactions.
  • Obtains and documents pre- and post-dialysis vital signs and patient weights.
  • Assists with initiation and termination of dialysis treatments, ensuring accurate machine setup and proper vascular access.
  • Adjusts fluid removal rates and dialysis machine settings as directed by the registered nurse.
  • Conducts routine water quality testing and ensures equipment disinfection, maintenance, and quality control are performed according to policy.
  • Responds to emergency situations and supports patient stabilization under the direction of nursing staff.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of treatments, observations, and equipment logs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • 0-1 years of experience in a dialysis or patient care setting preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of dialysis treatment procedures and patient care protocols.
  • Ability to recognize signs of patient distress and respond appropriately.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and equipment operation.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Familiarity with infection control and safety standards related to dialysis care.

Licenses and Certifications

  • BLS - Basic Life Support required
  • CCHT - Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician obtained by NNCC, BONENT, or state specific certification by start date of employment required
