Job Description

The Diagnostic Liaison works in conjunction with the MRI Technologists to ensure all patients are safely scanned, properly scheduled and there is a coordination between all clinics, MRI staff and the patients. The Liaison is responsible for reviewing all MRI/MRA Safety Screening forms. The Liaison will effectively communicate with the patient to ensure the forms are completed and to obtain additional screening information required for clearance. They will review all clearance items with the MRI Technologists and document the clearance information in the patients Athena account. The Liaison is also responsible for reviewing the MRI schedules and communicating any inaccuracies to the Clinic Supervisors and Managers.

Qualifications:

Candidate must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a health care setting and a Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse Diploma and/or certification. Must be familiar with medical terminology and diagnostic testing procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitors the MRI Department clinical inboxes in Athena to ensure that all MRI/MRA safety screening sheets, clearances, and labs are received and reviewed in a timely manner.
  • Monitors the MRI/MRA schedules to ensure that all patients have completed an MRI safety sheet prior to their appointment.
  • Carefully reviews all MRI/MRA screening sheets per MRI guidelines ensure that all questions have been completed by the patient.
  • Communicates with the patient to obtain additional information for clearance, including implant information, etc.
  • Documents all implanted devices and potential contraindications in the safety sheet communications.
  • Scan in implant/medical device cards to EMR and any other pertinent documentation
  • Review’s safety concerns with MRI Technologist to obtain approval for scan and notates clearance in the safety sheet communication prior to completing/closing the safety sheet.
  • Contact’s patients to cancel or reschedule any scans that are not cleared by MRI Technologist.
  • Create lab requisitions for patients requiring contrast enhanced scans.
  • Schedule x-rays for clearance s for metal (shrapnel, bullets, metal fragments, etc.).
  • Communicate with the Administrative/Medical Assistant regarding prescriptions needed for anxiety/pain for claustrophobic patients.
  • Requests and reviews medical clearances required for MRI/MRA scans.
  • Reviews MRI/MRA schedules and communicates any inaccuracies in scheduling to the Diagnostic Services Supervisor. Assist with rescheduling patients if time permits.
  • Monitors and answers all incoming phone calls and voicemails to the Liaison phone line.
  • Must have good medical terminology background.
  • Working knowledge of all MRI procedures and safety-related issues.
  • Must be well-organized and possess strong oral communication skills as well as written communication skills, detail -oriented
  • Perform daily QA on MRI orders for accuracy (ICD10, location, provider, anatomy/CPT, laterality) and coincides with documentation.
  • Document appointment details in patient’s EMR chart
  • Review and monitor MRI schedule for accuracy.
  • Review arthrogram checklist with patients prior to appointment date.
  • All other duties as assigned.
