Citizenship and Access Requirements: Must satisfy all VA onboarding, identity-verification, training, occupational-health, and facility or system access requirements applicable to the assignment.
Security Requirements: No classified clearance is specified. Employment requires a favorable VA background, suitability, credentialing, and system-access determination.
Number of FTEs: 2.0 FTE, totaling approximately 4,160 regular hours during the base period, plus scheduled overtime coverage as required.
Type of Employment: Full-Time.
Estimated Total Compensation: $42.11 per hour.
Working Hours: On-site 8-, 9-, or 10-hour shifts established by the supervisor. Rotating weekends and holidays and occasional or emergency overtime may be required.
Work Arrangement: On-site at assigned VA Portland Health Care System facilities in Portland, Vancouver, or Salem. Remote or telework performance is not authorized.
Period of Performance: January 4, 2027 through January 3, 2032, if all four option periods are exercised, with a possible extension of up to six months.
Summary of Services
The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist will provide full-time on-site X-ray services across the VA Portland Health Care System. The position performs diagnostic and portable radiography, fluoroscopic imaging, patient preparation and positioning, radiation protection, image-quality review, documentation, equipment checks, and related clinical support while maintaining VA safety, privacy, and customer-service standards.
Mandatory Qualifications
Must have at least two years of experience operating diagnostic radiology equipment under the direction of a radiologist or other medical officer.
Must have worked as an X-Ray Technologist in a hospital or clinical-laboratory setting within the previous six months.
Must hold a valid certification in the required X-ray or radiologic-technology modality.
Must maintain current Basic Life Support certification and possess or obtain a National Provider Identifier.
Must hold a full and unrestricted state license when required by the jurisdiction in which services are performed.
Must be available for the full period of performance and able to support rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and occasional or emergency overtime as assigned.
Must satisfy VA occupational-health, immunization, background, suitability, training, and system-access requirements.
Must be able to provide safe patient handling and work independently in a hospital imaging environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare patients for radiologic procedures, verify orders and identity, obtain relevant histories, and explain examinations.
Perform routine and complex diagnostic radiography, fluoroscopy, portable examinations, and operating-room imaging as assigned.
Position patients and equipment accurately and select appropriate technical factors to produce diagnostic-quality images.
Apply radiation-protection principles, shielding, exposure monitoring, and safe practices for patients, staff, and visitors.
Evaluate images for positioning, technique, labeling, artifacts, and diagnostic acceptability before transmitting them to PACS.
Operate and perform required checks on digital radiography, fluoroscopy, portable, and related imaging equipment.
Document examinations, contrast or procedure information, unusual events, and required workload data in VA systems.
Recognize urgent conditions or unexpected findings and promptly notify the radiologist, supervisor, or appropriate clinical personnel.
Maintain clean, stocked, and safe examination rooms and follow infection-prevention and reusable-medical-equipment procedures.
Assist with patient transport, transfers, monitoring, and safe movement while protecting dignity and comfort.
Support after-hours or emergency imaging and overtime assignments when scheduled or operationally required.
Protect confidential information and comply with VA privacy, security, safety, and professional-conduct requirements.
Collaborate professionally with radiologists, technologists, nurses, providers, patients, and VA leadership.
