Citizenship and Access Requirements: Must satisfy all VA onboarding, identity-verification, training, occupational-health, and facility or system access requirements applicable to the assignment.
Security Requirements: No classified clearance is specified. Employment requires a favorable VA background, suitability, credentialing, and system-access determination.
Number of FTEs: 4.0 FTE, totaling approximately 8,320 regular hours during the base period, plus scheduled overtime coverage as required.
Type of Employment: Full-Time.
Estimated Total Compensation: $42.11 per hour.
Working Hours: On-site 8-, 9-, or 10-hour shifts established by the supervisor. Rotating weekends and holidays and occasional or emergency overtime may be required.
Work Arrangement: On-site at assigned VA Portland Health Care System facilities in Portland, Vancouver, or Salem. Remote or telework performance is not authorized.
Period of Performance: January 4, 2027 through January 3, 2032, if all four option periods are exercised, with a possible extension of up to six months.
Summary of Services
The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist will provide full-time on-site computed tomography services across the VA Portland Health Care System. The position performs routine and advanced CT examinations, angiographic and interventional support, contrast and IV-related tasks, dose optimization, sterile procedures, PACS documentation, image-quality review, and urgent and routine imaging while maintaining VA patient-safety standards.
Mandatory Qualifications
Must have at least two years of experience performing advanced computed tomography applications in the proposed modality.
Must hold a valid certification in the required CT or radiologic-technology modality.
Must maintain current Basic Life Support certification and possess or obtain a National Provider Identifier.
Must demonstrate broad knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, cross-sectional imaging, radiation safety, and CT equipment operation.
Must be proficient with general diagnostic imaging, portable radiography, fluoroscopy, CT examinations, angiographic procedures, and operating-room imaging as assigned.
Must hold a full and unrestricted state license when required by the jurisdiction in which services are performed.
Must be available for the full period of performance and able to support rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and occasional or emergency overtime as assigned.
Must satisfy VA occupational-health, immunization, background, suitability, training, and system-access requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare and assess patients for CT examinations, verify orders and identity, obtain relevant histories, and explain procedures.
Perform routine and advanced CT, CT angiography, and other assigned diagnostic or interventional imaging procedures.
Operate CT and related imaging equipment safely and select protocols and technical factors appropriate to the examination and patient condition.
Prepare and administer contrast and support intravenous access and related monitoring within the authorized scope of practice.
Apply sterile technique and assist radiologists and other providers during interventional CT or angiographic procedures.
Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures and respond appropriately to changes, emergencies, or adverse reactions.
Evaluate images for positioning, technique, labeling, artifacts, and diagnostic quality before transmitting them to PACS.
Document examinations, contrast, radiation-dose information, procedure details, and required workload data in VA systems.
Follow dose-optimization practices and support CT quality-assurance and performance-improvement activities.
Maintain clean, stocked, and safe imaging areas and complete equipment and supply readiness checks.
Support urgent, emergency, operating-room, portable, and overtime imaging assignments when required.
Protect confidential information and comply with VA privacy, security, infection-control, safety, and professional-conduct requirements.
Collaborate professionally with radiologists, technologists, nurses, providers, patients, and VA leadership.
