Join the UAMS Health Benton/Bryant team as a Cardiac Echo Technician, where you will play a vital role in performing diagnostic echocardiograms and ensuring patient safety and comfort during procedures. Your role is to explain the procedure to patients, obtain medical histories, and ensure patient comfort during the test. As the Cardiac Echo Technician, you will follow safety protocols and procedures to protect patients and yourself from potential hazards associated with ultrasound imaging.

Qualifications:
High School Diploma
Graduation from an accredited Medical Sonography Program.
Cardiac ultrasound experience, including treadmill and pharmacologic stress testing preferred.
Prefer Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS). Must be registry eligible. Must complete registration within one year of employment.
Current BLS required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Technical Expertise: Skilled in performing echocardiograms with advanced imaging techniques; knowledge of cardiac diseases and pathology.
Clinical Skills: Competent in initiating IV access, administering contrast agents, and monitoring patients during procedures.
Documentation and Compliance: Experienced with EPIC and CNL documentation guidelines; accurate in billing and coding.
Communication and Patient Care: Strong interpersonal skills for explaining procedures and ensuring patient comfort; ability to collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams.
Safety and Protocol Adherence: Committed to safety protocols and maintaining high-quality imaging standards.

Responsibilities:
Patient Preparation and Communication
Explain procedures to patients and obtain their medical histories.
Ensure patient comfort and safety during all tests.
Echocardiogram Procedures
Conduct transthoracic, treadmill exercise, and pharmacological stress echocardiograms using advanced techniques such as M-Mode, 2D, Doppler, Color Flow, Spectral Doppler, and bubble studies.
Assist physicians with procedures and examinations, including transesophageal studies, patient monitoring, and ultrasound equipment operation.
Perform online and offline measurements, calculations, and velocities of acquired images.
Contrast Administration
Initiate IV access as needed, following UAMS policies and procedures.
Administer contrast agents (e.g., perflutren or bubble) in compliance with UAMS guidelines and document usage for performance improvement tracking.
Data Analysis and Reporting
Recognize and report critical findings to the reading cardiologist immediately.
Identify distinct types of cardiac diseases and pathology.
Documentation and Compliance
Accurately complete billing and coding for performed procedures.
Document patient information and procedures in EPIC following CNL guidelines.
