Provide education and support people affected by diabetes while helping them to better understand and manage their condition. Encourage self-management that promotes the achievement of individualized behavioral and treatment goals that optimize health outcomes in persons with diabetes across the health care continuum.
Diabetes Educator
Required Qualifications:
• Minimum of two year clinical experience required.
• Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) or Bachelor's degree in Nutrition/Dietetics, Exercise Physiology or closely related field required.
• Excellent teaching and communication skills (written and verbal) required.
• Ability to demonstrate initiative, teamwork and work with minimal direction required.
• Public speaking ability required.
• Basic knowledge in office computer tools such as Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook required.
•Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, must be from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program (effective for new hires starting January 1, 2023 or later).
• Licensed Medical Nutrition Therapist through the State of Nebraska Department of Health and Registered dietitian through the Commission on Dietetic Registration required (if applicable).
• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Nebraska or current compact state license (if applicable).
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience providing diabetic education preferred.
• Masters degree in Nursing (MSN), Nutrition/Dietetics, Exercise Physiology or closely related field degree preferred.
Certified Diabetes Educator
Required Qualifications:
• Minimum of two years clinical experience to include educating patients on diabetes required.
• Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) or Nutrition/Dietetics, Exercise Physiology or closely related field required.
• Completion of Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetic Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA) if applicable.
• If applicable, completion of a CADE accredited Dietetic Internship Program/Coordinated Program in Dietetics required.
• 1,000 hours of diabetes self-management education and completed and maintained active CDE certification (or equivalent) from a recognized diabetes certification body required.
• Excellent teaching and communication skills (written and verbal) required.
• Ability to demonstrate initiative, teamwork and work with minimal direction required.
• Public speaking ability required.
• Basic knowledge in office computer tools such as Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook required.
