DG BOSS: Power Plant Electrician (FN)

Program Summary

  • KBR provides provide integrated Base Operations Support (BOS) services to the Commanding Officer, Navy Support Facility, Diego Garcia (NSF DG) in support of its mission as a Forward, logistics, support base in the British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT).
  • The Power Plant Electrician is responsible for the safe operation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of medium- and low-voltage electrical power generation and distribution systems. The position supports continuous power generation operations by ensuring all electrical systems, equipment, and components operate reliably, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • The Power Plant Electrician is classified as a Qualified Person under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.399 and performs work on energized electrical systems in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.332(b)(3) training and qualification requirements.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair medium-voltage and low-voltage electrical power generation and distribution systems.
  • Perform electrical maintenance on generators, switchgear, transformers, motor control centers (MCCs), protective relays, and associated auxiliary equipment.
  • Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance activities in accordance with established procedures, technical manuals, and maintenance schedules.
  • Safely perform work on energized electrical systems when required, in compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and site-specific safety procedures.
  • Diagnose electrical faults, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions to restore system reliability.
  • Assist with electrical system installations, modifications, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and documentation in accordance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with supervisors, control technicians, and other maintenance personnel to support continuous operations.
  • Observe and enforce all safety rules and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Participate in standby/on-call rotations to support 24/7 power plant operations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support mission and operational requirements.

Basic Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Thorough understanding of electrical theory and power generation systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain medium-voltage electrical equipment safely.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, NEC, NFPA, and NFPA 70E electrical safety standards.
  • Ability to identify electrical hazards and implement appropriate controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, one-line diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based, operational environment.
  • Physically capable of performing job duties including standing, bending, climbing, lifting, and working in confined spaces.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Physically capable of performing job duties including standing, bending, climbing, and walking.
  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to operate manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
  • Ability to meet all medical, dental, drug screening, and background check requirements for deployment.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS OR TRAINING

  • Relevant work-related training and certifications are highly preferred, including but not limited to:
  • Journeyman or Master Electrician License
  • OSHA 30-Hour (Construction and/or General Industry)
  • NFPA 70E – Electrical Safety in the Workplace
  • Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO)
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certification
  • Arc Flash and Electrical Hazard Analysis Training

EDUCATION:

  • Required: High School diploma or equivalent with Technical or Vocational training in the Electrical field.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of documented practical experience performing electrical work in power generation, industrial, or utility environments following apprenticeship completion.
  • Experience working with medium-voltage electrical systems is required.
