As a DFX Engineering Intern, you will own a scoped manufacturing engineering project with direct mentorship from a DFX engineer. You'll get hands-on exposure to how a product moves from design intent to production reality — working alongside Hardware Engineering, Quality, Test Engineering, and our external manufacturing partners.

Responsibilities

Assist in developing manufacturing assembly processes, fixtures, and equipment requirements; contribute to fixture and line qualification activities.

• Perform tolerance analysis and GD&T-based studies on assemblies and part-level drawings under the guidance of your mentor.
• Collect and analyze process data (yield, cycle time, failure modes) and contribute to failure analysis and lessons-learned reports.
• Investigate a new or improved manufacturing process, applying theoretical and practical engineering knowledge to improve product quality or production efficiency.
• Present your project findings and recommendations to the DFX team and cross-functional partners at the end of the internship.

Qualifications

Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a BS or MS in Mechanical, Electro-Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field

• Coursework or project experience in manufacturing processes, design for manufacturing, or mechanical design
• Exposure to GD&T and tolerance analysis fundamentals
• Experience with a 3D CAD (NX or PTC Creo preferred
• SolidWorks / CATIA acceptable)
• Effective written and verbal communication skills Prior internship or co-op in manufacturing, NPI, or product development
• Experience with data analysis or scripting applied to process or test data
• Familiarity with precision assembly, inspection, or automation equipment
• Exposure to adhesives, hot bar, or laser soldering/jetting processes
• Interest or coursework in AI-driven manufacturing or Smart Factory initiatives
